Childhood Land.
There la a beautiful, far ot Ian J,
Lying in aunlit aeaa ; .
But never a rliip tu that magic atrand
Wee wafted by fitful brecto.
Tor where her radical ehorea unfold,
Night atretchea her purple bare,
And faatewa it in with her galea of gold,
And gwarda it with aeotry atara.
Orer the fathomleaa aummer akiea,
Snowy clouda come and go;
Through every r?lley thai dreaming Ilea,
Muiiral rivera flow.
Mountain ami forest, and glen, and glade,
By the soft sooth wind fanned.
Bird* and blossom* that never fade,
Brighten this fairy land.
Xrery vanished, forgotten day
Scatters its sansbine there ;
Bads an folding that pass away.
Are living more fresh and fhlr.
Loving deeds that the bands have don*?

Work unfinished that soals began,
Mad* perfect, there live again.
Men bay* sought It tot weary years,
Yet ae'er to their yearning eyes
The glow of the mystie tie appears
Where the land of the beautiful lies.
Yet all hare wandered its bright vales through.
In the quiet of peace fb I hours;
Each heart the calm of its Joy one* knew.
And the sweet of its deathless flowsrs.
Bat hoar by hoar from ths hidden shore,
Oar feet have Joarneyiag gone ;
And days that hara faded can know no mora
The light of its tender dawn.

A number of years ago when

11 Never mind," paid Sal, "I'd
just as lieve stand up."
But the gallant Pete couldn't
think of it, and said, u Wait n
miu't I'll get you a chair," and off
he started, leaving Sal alone.
Just at this moment the clown
came in. dressed in his usual cos
tume, and dancing around tlic ring,
stopped in front of Sal and began
to sing:
" Oh Sail/ it the gal for me."
This caused Sal to blush, for
she thought that the clown was
looking at her. As she stood near
the ring, of course she hid the,
view of those on the lower seats
behind her, arid as usual on such
occasions, the clown cracked his
jokes at the offenders until thov
take the hint and find a seat, but |
she said she would rather stand
up. At this the clown commenced
his joke, remarking to the
ring master:
''There's a chance for me
now."
44 A chance for you f1
Yes ; don't you see that gal lias
lost her bean, and she is looking
at me, I know," and turning three
or four somersaults, he stopped in
front of Sal, arid began to sing:
* Ob Solly ia the gal fur ro?,
I woalJ have no other,
And if H?1 difd to-a?prr<>w night,

This was evidently meant for
bor and raised Sal's dander, and
she burst out with?

You low-lived spotted scum of the

would wallop yon for that. 1
wouldn't stay here another minit?
nor neither would any decent people
either.*1 Saying which she
rnshed out of the tent amid roars
of laughter.
The clown, assuming a comical
altitude, remarked to the ring
master that his grandfather was a
remarkable man, and so was his
grandmother, too, but that gal

At this juncture Pete rushed in
clueely followed by Sal, and jumping
into the ring, he squared off
at the clown, and said :
** I'll teach yon to insult any female
under my charge," and let

him plump in the face, sent him
to mother earth, at which he
1'limped on him and commenced
;icking him unmercifully, Sal
standing on the outside of the
ring clapping her hands, and
sang out:
" That's It, Pete, give liiin jessie,
and we'll git married on

At tbis moment (be ring-master
and three or four others caught
Pete and commenced to thrash
him when Pete's friends interfered
; and a general fight ensued,
which completely broke up the
circus.
