a reduction of rates and oarrylng passengers to

the same line of remark, observing in 'fbe

bat was rejoicad to fted a total ekange in this

Wo are gratified that the new large stockholder!

The Air-Lino Railroad.
The Executive Committee who have been
charged with attending to the important interest
pf Greenville, as conneoted with the AirLino
Railroad, had a meeting in the ollfp of
Jambs I\ Moorb, Esquire, on lagt Saturday
evening. Several citixens, not of the
tee, were present. The special object ?i| to
hear a report from the able and aealous chairman
of the committee, Gen. w. k. Kaskt.
Gen. B. made a most interesting Verbal statement
of the prospects of the Road. Frem positive
information in his possession, bo stated
that the Air-Line Road would certainly bo
constructed. A most favorable contract has

tractor, the details of which wo do not undertake
to give ' hut so far Greenvillo is concerned,
Gun . K. said that we need not expect
that the road would puss through it unloss wo
shall ret to work manfully to raiee the sum of
about three hundred thousand dollars, which
the County and City have pledged. The Koad is
to bo built in two years from this time, and th0
amount will be called for by instalments. The
investment itself is safe, and the benefits to
the City aud County incalculable ; and on the
other hand the failure to socure the road aod
its taking another course than through Greenville
would bo ruinous. Gen. E. urged these
and other views of the importance of the undertaking,
at)d the necessity of the proper exertions
of the pcoplo ot the City and County of
Graenvilly to secure the location, in a clear*
logical and conclusive manner. We felt sorry
that every citizen of the County could not
have been present, or could not at least in
some way have placed before them the sound
reasoning founded on the basis of facts, which j
was presented by Gen. Easley. (
On motion ofli. P.Hammkyt, a sub-commit- j
toe of seven was appointed to report next Mon l
day a plun for raising the noeessary funds.
The Committee consists of H. P. HammrtT, -<

Ai.ex. McBee. We are bopefbl in this waiter,
