very well, aud expected to have the
mountainous and hilly part complet
ed by the middle of October, or per
haps sooner, it is a noble under
taking. and admirably executed.
The difficulty of ascending the moun
tain is entirely removed ; and a wag
on may descend with the heaviest
load that it can bring to the moun
tain, without locking a wheel. In
deed, it is a w ork equally honorable
to the state, aud the persons to whom
the execution of it is entrusted.

Hopkins, the first, for three hundred and
ninety dollars and some cents, dated some

the year 1815, with a credit of sixty five
dollars upon the same, the above thre
notes made payable to James Johnson, (or
