The Bridge recently thrown across the Cape Fear, at Lower Fayettevilie, is com pleted ; and was thrown open to the Public o<? Saturday the 8th instant. ? To adopt the words ot the FayetteviUe Observer, we would add : u Us successful accomplishment, whilst i it cannot but be highly gratifying to those immediately concerned, should serve as an encouraging example to the advocates of internal ^improvement generally, by showing that in spite of the heavy handed pressure of the times, there is yet energy enough in the public mind to surmount rVcn greater difficulties, and that other and inoi e extended efforts, if perservingly made in a cause so intimately connected with the prosperity of our native state, must be finally successful. The advant ages which this ind vrdual instance or pa trioiic exertton will secure to the trade of our town, are universally acknowledged ; and we are confident that we are hut the orgai.s of the putlic feeling of this com munity, ajien we express our hearty wish es, tJbat it may he a* productive of private emolument, as it will be of public titility.M A letter from the Hon. Charles Pinckney, to the Editor, dated 6th inst. states, " It is said attempts will he made ill the Senate, to take up the Bankrupt Pill in a new shape should that be the case, and it passes there, it may stand some chance here ? at present, however, the ap pearances are against its passing this Session." ? Carolina Gazette . > . w ?4. m 1 m T^e correspondence between com modore Decatur and commodore Barron been published in a pam phlet form,. in this city. It is; of a pointed clraracter, though of consi derable length; and, were even de sirable, we do uot think that its pub lication will serve to lead the public mind to a determination favorab)e4o the justice of the cgjuee of the one or of the other of (he parties~--ltather let a veil be dropped over the tran saction and Jjts memory be forgotten, unless as its memory is connected with a just respect for the merits of the deceased, and a due regret for the loss which the country has sus tained by his death. The length of tli?* correspondence is an objection to its publication in our newspaper, re lating, as it does, to a private con troversy. ;:But, the consideration which baa determined us to withhold : k from our columns, is*, that we can see no benefit which will result from tracing this controversy to its source, however mere curiosity may be gra < tilled by the review. ?
