The prize will be sent North for condemnation by
a Court of Admiralty. It is a pity that she cannot
be retained here and fitted up "for a pilot boat, as
she is just the crafl lor such a purpose. The
dispatch yacht dm rica, Acting-Master Baker

the schooner dgnes, Capt Wood which had eluded
the blockade of Charleston, and was bound to
Nassau with a cargo of rosin and turpentine. The
vessel was taken off (jape Roman, and, with her
c irgo, is worth $8,(RH) to $!>,000.

been busy for the past few days in paying off the

and acccp able?indeed, when were they
ever otherwise ? The long-expected funds were
brought here in the Unile/l Slates, an 1 the delay
of the Go.ernnicnt in meeting the demands of the

promptly the po tage currency which t ongress
: uthorized for the purpose of relf virig that want.
IV er money has one great advantage over coin.
It is handled and counted easily, and payments are
made with rapidity. One regiment had six months
pay due them up to the Sftt of August,
and the others four months, so that the
the sum r ce.ved by each man amounts to soni thing
considerable. The sutlers and storekeepers
; re having a good time in the buoyant state of the

the tradesman have to otter.

The Rebel Raid in* Pennsylvania.?Assurances
have been received from Washington that the
rebel raid into Peunsvivauia on the 'Jth is not considered
important there; tha. the disposition ol
the National lorces will compel a hasty retreat of
the enemy, and that their movements must be rapid
to escape capture. Gen. Meridian telegiaphed
! to the War Department on the 11th that not one
of the rebels in Pennsylvania should return into
\ irginia. It is to be hoped that this premise will
be fulfilled. On Saturday morning Oct. 11th the
rebels destroyed a large amount of property at
Chaniborsburg, including the machine shops, railway
and rolling stock of the Cumberland Valley
Railroad Company at that place, and burned the
railroad bridge at Scotland, live miles to the castward.
They also seized about five hundred horses,
and a large an.ou it of Governmerit clothing?
exchanging the latter at once for the.'r own dilupi,
dated garments. At about 10 o'clock in the morning
a portion of the force moved in'the direction ot
Gettysburgh, with the intention, no doubt, of de,
stroying a bridge at that place to prevent the ap.
, proach ot troops. The rebels, it now appears,
crossed the Potomac near Clear Spring, early 011
I riday morning, and entered Pennsylvania by
i Blair s Valley. How they propose to get back
;' again does not clea.ly appear, and Gen Me' lellan's
