Mrs. Patterson.
Mrs. W. S. Patterson, who has been
quite sick for sometime, was taken
Monday to Charlotte, where she will
receive treatment at the Crowder
sanitarium.
Memorial Service.
On Sunday night next the Methodist
church contemplates having a
memorial service in connection with
taking the service flags down, and it
is hoped that the services of some
distinguished boy can be obtained for
the occasion.
SutTruge Meeting.
The regular monthly meeting of
the Lancaster Equal Suffrage League
will be held in the old Red Cross
rooms on Thursday afternoon at five
o'clock. All members of the league
are urged to attend as business of
vital importance will bo discussed.
Any women outside the membership
who are interested in the subject are
cordially invited.
(XT to Reunion.
Lancaster will be well represented
at the Confederate reunion in Atlanta
this week. Several of the old
soldiers left Monday and this morning
the trains were crowded, carrying
also a number of those not members
of soldiers' families. Commander \V
Q Caskey, of Camp Dixie, was In
charge of the arrangements, and Miss
Onihel Duren represented the state as
maid of honor.

ltev. W. A. Mcllwaine and Mrs. Mcllwaine.
of Richmond, Va., are in
Lancaster on a visit to relatives and
are guests this week of Mr. and Mrs.
R. J. Mcllwaine. on Chesterfield avenue.
They were recently married in
Massachusetts, the home of Mrs. Mcllwaine,
but have since lived in Richmond,
where Mr. Mcllwaine is pursuing
his studies in a theological seminary
of that city, preparing to taking
up mission work with his father,
Rev. W. U. Mcllwaine, in Japan, for
which country they expect to leave
sometime during November.

and Mrs. R. K. Mcllwaine of the Jones
Cross Road section of the county, died
in the Kmbarkation Hospital No. 2,
Hoboken. N. Y. Monday at 5 p. m.

.Only a few days before his discharge
he had an automobile accident which |
caused his death. The hospital au-j
tliorities have kept the family posted
| daily of the seriousness of the lieuj
tenant's condition. His brother-inlaw,
Capt. Craig, has been at his bedside
for the past few days. His body
is expected to arrive in Lancaster
Wednesday afternoon or Thursday
morning. The funeral will be held in
the Presbyterian church and the interment
in the Douglas cemetery All
the young s&ldiers of the world war
are particularly invited to be present
at the services. Definite notices will
be given out later.
I Dr. W. J. McCllothlin, president of
Purman university, will speak at the
First Baptist church of Lancaster
next Sunday morning at 11:30
I o'clock. All the Baptists in this section
are specially urged to hear him.
A Meeting in the Interest ?5f Public
Health.
I'nder the auspices of the school
trustees and teachers and the Red
Cross workers in this county there
was held at the court house Mon
day morning a good meeting of representative
citizens, presided over by
Superintendent Howell. On invitation,
Dr. L. A. Riser, a representative
of the International Board of llealtn,
was present and delivered a very interesting
and instructive address in
reference to school buildings, sanitation,
medical examination of school
children and generally as to the
great importance of improving health
conditions and especially in widespread
precautions for the prevention
of disease. The thanks of the meeting
were extended to Dr. Riser for his
instructive address.
The plan of the International
Hoard of Health Is to appropriate for
this purpose an amount equal to what
the legislature should provide for a
taxation upon the counties. Such
joint appropriation to be under the
supervision of the State Hoard of
Health ,
The meeting unanimou"ly by a rising
vote adopted a resolution requesting
our county delegation to take the
necessary steps to secure an appropriation
for Lancaster county of $3,600
for the purposes indicated which
supplemented by the International
Hoard would make $7,200 available
for a health campaign In this county.
The school trustees and teachers
and the Red Cross workers were appointed
as committees to secure petitions
to the legislature for this appropriation.
This is a most worthy cause and
ought to commend itself to our people
general). Such a wise precaution
would not only do vast good
i in the promotion of general health
| and.efficiency but would especially
turn our community against such a
scourge as the influenza attack last
year.
