THE SISTARE REUNION

About Four Hundred People (JatliIered

Old Homestead.
CWritten for The News.)
According to announcement recently
made through the columns of
1 The News, the children of the late
'Hiram Sistare, now living near Mat-|
j thews. N. C., met with their relatives
and friends near the Iluford monument
on the Chesterfield road,
! Wednesday, July 18, 1918, the same
being their birth place.
On reaching the place above mentioned
the writer found quite a num

come from various sections of the
county to meet the visiting family,
jAbout 11:30 o'clock the party arrived
and a considerable time was ta|
ken up In meeting the playmates of
I youth and many friends of younger,
age.
In this party were three brothers,
two of whom were twins, so nearly
alike that it puzzled a great many
I to recognize them.
The names of the twins were J. E.
and B A. Sistare, and the third and
|
older was J. Iv. Sistare.
Several other members of this
family having died some years ago.
The father, Hiram Sistare was a
Confederate soldier and was killed
in service. The mother, Mrs. Holly
| Sistare, (her maiden name. Miss
, II??lly Hornby), found that she was
left the great task of caring for and
maintaining this family of children,
which she did by much hard work
and many hardships, often denying
herself of the necessary comforts of
life. She lived at the place referred
to in the beginning of this article,
i (a small cabin near where Mr. Alex-1
ander Tf'nson now lives), for about '
10 years after the close of the civil j
war, when she moved to Union
county, N. (near Matthews),
\ ^ere she lived until her death. Her
sons, despite adverse conditions in|
early life. by dent and industry have
secured for themselves fine farms
and enjoy the many conveniences of
modern life, and deserve honorable!
i mention, wherever they may ro.
After the preliminary introduc-l
tlons and meeting of friends had
been made the meeting was called to
order by Mr. W. G. A. Porter. Prof.
A. r. Howell was called upon to
open the services with prayer.
Mr. J, E. Sistare was then introduced
and made an address, and was
followed by Mr. R. A. Sistare. both
of whom expressed their delight in
seeing so many of their friends of
their youth and urging the people to
true and right living.
Mr. A. C. Howell was then intro-l
duced and made a short address urg-l
;
ing the people to true patriot'sm. by
training their children to obedience.
Dinner was served and a most ex-'
"dlent repast it was. The crowd
numbered about 4on, and all went
home having enjoyed the occasion
in the fullest meaning.

STATEWIDE CAMPAIGN
FOR BETTER HEALTH
State Council of Defense liiauguI
rates Campaign on August t
in Columbia.
Columbia, July 22.?Preservation
of public health is at all times one
of the greatest of social and economic
problems. At this time it is also
a war emergency problem. The
great duty resting on every American
citizen today is to devote every
possible ounce of his energy and effort
toward the winning of the war.
Death and disease are the greatest
neutralizers of effort. A sick baby,
a case of malaria or typhoid practlc-'
ally paralyzes the energies of the entire
family until the disease has run
Its course, and then the expenses
have to be paid and those who have
done the nursing must rest.
Very many of the most active and
i intelligent physicians of the State
[ have volunteered for war service
: and there Is evidence that In some
[ sections of the state there are now
' too few left to properly look after the
health of the people. Others of ou?*
: physicians will he called into service
> at an early date which will make the
i situation very much more acute.
Under these conditions it would
seem that nothing can be of more
importance than to give the people
i the elementary knowledge of how (o
- avoid preventable diseases and of
I how to protect child life both before!
> and after birth.
The Council of Defenae at it* last

campaign of education for ptibi
