Working on School Gordons.
The working of school gardens,
lately adopted by the town and placed
under the management of Miss
KlFreida Poag, is now beginning to
materialize. The plot of land furnished
by Mrs. Edgar Hinson, has
been carefully plowed and is being
divided into many individual gardens
that each child may be assigned
his or her task for the season.
The school children are most enthusiastic
over these duties and fortyfive
have volunteered their services
to carry on this work.
Sudden Oouth of Tlieo Nelson.
Theo. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Cousar Nelson, of the Jacksonham
section of Lancaster county, died
suddenly Wednesday afternoon while
at work in his field.

Silver Tea
On Tuesday afternoon at five
o'clock the ladles of the First Baptist
church gave a silver tea at the
home of Mrs. James II. Thayer. The
hall and sitting room thrown into
one. bright and cheerful with roses
of brilliant hues, were alone inviting.
A program, carefully arranged
for the occasion, was artfully carried
out in every detail. Vocal solos
were rendered by Mesdames llerrick
and W. R. Thomson, accompanied
by Mrs. H. H. Kester; a recitation
was given by the talented Miss
Freddie Knight; instrumental music
by Misses Belle Williams, Mary

Wednesday afternoon at five o'clock.
Mrs. Porter was the daughter of Mr.

months and was taken to the infirmary
