The municipal authorities are having
Lancaster's white way system
treated to a coat of fresh green
paint. The appearance of the posts
is materially improved.
The ladios of the Lancaster Equal
Suffrage League were active yester#
day. the occasion being "Tag Day."
It is understood that the league realized
quite a neat suni as a result
of the day's efforts.
Young men composing the membership
of the Bachelor's Club have
concluded not to give up their quarters.
as had been previously announced,
and will continue to occupy
their bungalow.
Mrs. J. J. Blackmon has been taken
to the Pryor hospital in Chester
where she will undergo an operation
for appendicitis. Those making the
trip with Mrs. Blackmon were Mr.
Blackmon, Dr. J. D. Funderburk and
Dr. E. J. Hlnson.

are in earnest in their venture.
The work of repainting, repairing
and renovating the Royal hotel has
been begun and is progressing rapidly.
The interior is to be materiallv
Improved and the entire building is
to be screened. When the work is
completed the Royal will be a splendid
hotel.
There is decided local interest in
recruiting and it It generally believed
that Lancaster will furnish far
more than her quota of men when
the call comes for volunteers, in the
event that the United States declares
war on Germany. A number
of the young men of the city are
keenly interested, especially in thr?
naval service.
The offices of the City of l^ancaster
are now established in the
Spring's Block on Main street, occupying
the building where Burnett's
Five and Ten Cents store was formerly
located and within the next fewdays
the offices of the Lancaster Light
and Power Company will also be
moved to the same location. Judge
Krnest Secrest, the city clerk and
treasurer, savs that the munielnal
office will be kept open hereafter
from 9 a. m. until 6 p. m. each day.
"Lancaster'* Greater Minstrels"
'will be the attraction at Mackey
Opera House tonight and indications
are that the local talent production
will be witnessed by a capacity
house. Those making up the cast of
the play have been at work for several
weeks and they say that the bes^
song hits of the season, the best
jokes and the best costumes ever
seen In Lancaster will be offered tonight
for the public's approval. Tho
proceeds of the undertaking will go
t ? the local troop of Boy Scouts.

blow over the head. The negro's
skull was fractured and his condition
is said to be critical. McCray is in
the county Jail, where he is being
held to await the outcome of Brown's
Injuries.
