Solicitor J. K. Henry and Court
Stenographer Harry I. McCaw spent
Sunday at their homes in Chester
and York respectively, returning to
Lancaster yesterday morning to resume
their court duties. Judge S.
W. G. Shipp. who is presiding at the
present tor^. remained in tlie city
over the week-end.
S. M. Harnett, who has conducted
a five and ten cents store in Lancas
tor for several years, is engaged this
week in moving to Hock Hill, where
he will make hib home in the future.
Mr. Harnett has not decided what
business he will engage in in "Rock
Hill and temporarily, while trying to
regain his health after a long illness,
will not embark in a new venture.
The time for paying State" and
county taxes expired last Thursday
and County Treasurer T. L. Hilton
Is now engaged in preparing the
sheriff's executions. Mr. Hilton said
yesterday that the executions this
year will probably "be larger in number
than for several years past, hut
no explanation of this fact has been
advanced.
The Lancaster graded school won
a prize of $10 at the recent meeting
of the State Teachers Association.
This prize was awarded to one
schoAl in each county raising the
largest amount of money for School
^ Improvement purposes during the
year just closed. The Lancaster
school raised $05.57. which compares
very favorably Indeed with t heamounts
raised by the schools In
other counties.
Present indications are that the
case of the S'.Me versus Ernest
Evans, Walter Evaos and Walte.
Kingstaff, charged with murder,
will not be called at th > present term
of court of general sessions. Thenare
a number of other important
cases, including several cases oP?h ?nilcide,
on the docket to be heard hefore
the Evans case is reached and
as court is to continue here only
through the remainder of this week,
it is highly improbable that the aeUnn

the present term.
Lancaster people are much interested
in the plans and specification;
for Lancaster's new Federal bulid
Ing. Tho postmaster has had a
nuinher of visits from parties interested
in seeing just what kind of
building Lancaster will have. Toe
plans call for a building of whPe
brick, finished in stone, and the general
appearance of the new postofflce
Is expected to be very attractive indeed.
It is hardly likely that any
construction firm of this immediate
section will put In a bid for the
work. The bids are to bo opened and
the contract let by the Treasury Department
on April 11.
Preparations are being made in
the office of Lancaster county'R
Judge of Probate for attending to
the new prohibition law certificates
when the new law goes into effect,
-which will be on April 25. Jftdge
Stewman is preparing to place an
order for the necessary certificates,
which certificates will give the date,
tn ename of the applicant or consignee,
his postofhce address, the
carrier bringing the whiskey and the
amount and kind of whiskey. Judge
Stewman says that he will follow the
ruling of the Attorney General relative
to Issuing the certificates and
will charge 25 cents In each instanoe
when an application is madd to order
liquor. The general public of
W the county will await with Interest
the date for the new law to become
effective and to see how It will work
