MEXICANS REFUSE RANSOM
Negro Ranch Overseer Slill Hold by
/ Salazar's Rami.
El Paso, Feb. 20.?Joso Ynez,
Salazar refused to accept the check
drawn on E. K. Warren & Sons, for
$r>.0<Jo. and Ed "Hunk" Spencer, the
negro ranch overseer, and his Mexican
wife are still being held as hostages
at the Ojitos ranch in Mexico,
a representative of the Warren interests
here said today. Spencer and
his wife were made prisoners by
Salazar's troops at Ojitos after the
raid on the Corner ranch, near
Hachita.
Salazar feared the check was a
part of a scheme to capture his men,
it was said, and it was understood he
demanded the money in gold. As far
as could be learned, Spencer and his
wire aro safe.
It was also learned that two
Americans from Land's ranch, on the
American side of the border, west of
the Corner ranch, were pursued for
five miles by Mexican raiders Saturday
and escaped by hard riding
across the border after being fired
at.
A few of the products that can he
obtained from soy beans are as follows:
Meal, flour, glycerine. enamel,
waterproofing material, lineleum,
soft soap, hard soap and soap chips.
