ft 4' I LOCAL DOTS i| Rev. W. S. Patterson, pastor the A. R. P. church, has returned from York where he presided Wednesday at a called meeting of the First Presbytery of the A. R. P. church. A congregational meeting will be held immediately after the morning service at the Presbyterian church Sunday for the purpose of electing three additional elders and four additional aeacons ror tne cnurcn. A lull congregational meeting is requested. "The Prince and the Pauper," an interesting photoplay from Mark Twain's story of the same name, was shown at The Star theatre yesterday and the admirers of Marguerite Clark enjoyed her acting of the dual role of Prince of Wales and beggar boy. The historical setting, portraying various phases of English life during reign of Henry t'TII, gave the picture an educational value at once pleasing and instructive. Manager Parr is to be congratulated upon securing such a worthwhile production. Ed Mcllwain, colored, while cutting wood on Mr. W. S. Kirk's place accidentally cut his leg and came near bleeding to death before the wound could be staunched. Though weakened by reason of his loss of blood, the negro's condition is satisfactory and it is expected that he will recover. The secretary of state has issued a charter to the Harper Hardware Company of this place with a capital of $6,000. The officers are Robert S. Harper, president and A. F. Giles, secretary and treasurer. C. C. Horton, who spent several weeks in and near Kershaw with relatives and frinds, returned to the Soldiers Home in Columbia Saturday. Mr. Horton speaks in highest terms of the management of the Home under its present efficient superintendent and his estimable wife.? Kershaw Era. m MILL VILLAGE. Mrs. Maud Pitman visited her sister, Mrs. Estelle Hogan of Great Falls. The little grandchild of Mr. J. A. Steele is very sick with whooping-cough. Little Howard Snipes who has been down with typhoid fever is improving now. Mrs. Mary Carnes is still very sick. Miss Oliva McGuirt who has been very low at Mr. Ernest McAteer's passed away Thursday night about eight o'clock. Miss Dillie Adams who has been in bad health for sometime is getting along nicely. Mrs. Bettie Reily was taken to the Fennell infirmary last week for treatment. Field Day for Colored People. The Field Day and Farmer's Convention will be held at the Lancaster Normal and Industrial school (colored) on March 16th, 1916. All colored schools of this county are invited to attend and especially all teachers are requested to be present on that day. M. D. Lee, Principal. Mr. Stevenson's Views. The last statement made by Mr. W. F. Stevenson as to what Congress should do for a farming district like this was that it had spent $475,000,000.00 on rivers and nothing on roads. It has also spent $100,000,000.00 on irrigation projects, to water lands for less than 1,000,000 people in the West. Why not do something to take the water out of the roads in the South? In South Carolina, the state and counties and towns and townships spent in 1914 about $1,000,060.00 on roads, and still of the 45, 549 miles of roads in the State only 4,888 miles are surfaced and really improved ?and that is the work of years. 40,661 miles are yet to be fixed, and all must be maintained. In the library was a supply of tissue paper of every f shade which the guests were asked to fashion into spring a bonnets. In a half hour deft fingers had evolved pattern hats of 1 every style and these were plac- , ed on stands and inspected by their makers, who were asked . to ballot for the most artistic creation. The hat made by Miss,. Johnnie May Lynch was voted the best effort at millinery and Miss Lynch was presented with a pair of gold hatpins. During th,e afternoon Mrs. J ^ Wylie invited her guests into the ^ dining room where refreshments in three courses were served.
