way measures, even in lynching.
The community spirit grows
stronger every day. This town's
needs, when ascertained are always
supplied.

We want everybody to keep
well but since they can not always
avoid sickness, we should
have a hospital in readiness for
those who need it.

If faithful, efficient service,
devotion to principle, freedom
from narrow factionalism are
rewarded as we believe they
will be Wood row Wilson will
without a doubt succeed himself
as president of the United
States, and likewise Richard Irvine
Manning will continue in
the office of governor of South
Carolina.

The State makes the following
pertinent comment on the
bill introduced by Representative
Railes to erect a marker at
the birthplace of our Andrew
Jackson:
"One can think of no reasonable
objection to the erection of
a marker to the birthplace of
Andrew Jackson in Lancaster
county, but if it should be
erected it should also be fortified
with a battery of heavy
guns pointed towards the North
Carolina border."
We know from past experience
that such a marker is in
need of ample protection from
the vandal horder of "Tarheelia"
who boldly lay claim to
him who is our very own.

TOO MANY OENOMINA
T1UNAL C OLLEGES.
Much has been said and written
recently by partisans of
both state and demoninational
colleges in behalf of these institutions,
but the most pertinent
comment we have read is
an editorial from the current issue
of the Walterboro Press
and Standard. Mr. Smoak. the
editor strikes at the root of the
matter when he declares that
there are too many denominational
colleges for any one of

In certain sections of South
Carolina there seems to he a
concerted action to array the1
state against the denomination- j
al colleges. We regret to see
this feeling spring up, and cannot
see wherein any good is to
come of it. The colleges have 1
been working harmoniously together,
and there seems to have
been room for all of them till
quite recently when the denominational
colleges have begun
to increase too rapidly for the!
support that is available, and
when the friends of these colleges
see them losing out and
