The room in the Springs block is finisaed in mission and white, with a ** lighting system that makes buying at night very practicable. The line fhown is very comprehensive and the prices are reasonable. Mr. Reese is a man of long experience in the buslnoe? and takes measures that guar antee a fit. Lancaster has seldom, if ever, enjoyed such a musical treat as canto to us last Friday evening In addition to the town's best musical talent, Mrs. A. B. Rlotcky of Spartanburg, who as a concert singer has no superior in the South. Miss Epton, a delightful reader, who is the expression teacher in the Spartanburg city ^ hools, and Mr. Karl Teubner, mezzo-soprano, who had on one or moro previous occasion thoroughly pleased those Lancastrians who heard htm nine each contributed liberally to the well arranged program. Mrs. Blotcky's voice, sweet,, full of sympathetic, made a atrong appeal. Every number was beautiful, but "Yesterday and Today," by SpearB, and "My Laddie" by Thayer, were perhaps favorites with the audience. Miss EDton, who also acted as Mrs. Blotcky's able accompanist, is a reader of easy stage presence and the seleotlons, given with grace and vivacity, marked her as a very talented younc woman. Mr. Teubner'a voice, as well as his happy selections, pleased his hearers. Mrs. Ola P. Catling's brilliant piano solos, always so much enjoyed, were up to their usual standard of excellence. Miss Minnie Coley, who teaches music in our graded schools, was heard also with much pleasure. And left but by no means least, were Mr. R.^M. fcfcOermtd't delightful violin umwr?. Yesterday morning about 9 o'clock | Mr. J. Beauregard Connor shot and > instantly killed Mr. F. R. Bailey, , [ commonly known as "Doc" Bailey, on > the pavement opposite the store of Mr. W. B. Plyler, near Midway. Three ( shots were fired by Mr. Connor, all; ; taking effect in the body of Mr. Bailey, who expired in a few seconds. [, It seems that Connor, acting as ' constable, arrested Bailey Sunday night one week ago for being drunk 1 and disorderly and shooting within the town limits. The trial oi the case was to have taken place before Mayor , Hood yesterday morning and at the i time of the unfortunate affair Connor, in company with Mr. Oscar Jackson, was on his way up town to attend the trial as a witness. Bailey < was sitting on the piazza of the store of W. B. Plyler where he had been just before Connor reached the store. < Bailey got up, went inside and when Connor got opposite the door Bailey came out with a gun and snapped it > at Connor, who immediately fired < three shots into Bailey's body. Bailey's gun was examined imme- ; cuaieiy alter the shooting and a load- , ed shell was found therein with tho indentation of the hammer on it. Five other loaded shells were also < found in the pocket of the dead man.) Connor came on up town and surrendered , to Sheriff Hunter. Some , time later he employed Claud N.I ] Sapp as his attorney. Mr. Sapp at once appeared before Judge Ernest Moore under habeas corpus proceed- < ings on application for bail for his I client, which was granted in the sum 1 of $1,000. The bond has been given , by Mr. Connor, who is now at liberty. | Magistrate J. L. Caskey, acting coro-1 ncr, held the inquest over the re-j , mains and tho verdict of the Jury was ' that the deceased came to his death; rrom a gun shot wound, the weapon| being fired by J. n. Connor. The de-1 5 ceased leaves a wife and several ' small children. SHOT FROM AMBUSH. : ( Mr. J. C. Truesdale of Pleasant Hill 1 Township, Wounded. ' j Early Saturday night while Mr. J. ( 1 C. Truesdale was on the road to his home, and about a half mile distant 1 therefrom, he was fired upon by some 1 one secreted on the side of the road., ^ The. assailant immediately fled in the darkness. The shot, No. 4, a dozen 1 or more, took effect in the right side ? of Mr. Truesdale's face, inflicting I serious, although not necesarily fatal wounds. Making in-j quiries he ascertained a man driving a horse and buppy had pone on up the road and by followinp and making ! further inquiries he traced the horse ; I and buggy near to the home of Mr. | Ernest G. Bell. Shortly after reach- 1 ing the vicinity of Mr. Bell's home, 1 Mr. Bell came to the sheriff and ad- ! mitted that ho had shot Mr. Trues- I dale, assigning as his reason domes-; tic troubles, the nature of which it is: unnecessary to mention. Mr. Trues-' ! dale denies the charge made by Mr. Bell. Both men had been in Heath 1 ( Springs that day. Bell married a niece of Truesdale's wife. Bell was broupht on to town : and lodged in jail by the sheriff. Connors spent Saturday and Sunday at the bedside of their sister. Mrs. J. R. Patrick, who is in a critical condition in Rock Hill.
