J. Gregory. Miss Gregory is a handsome young woman of poise and dignity and has been a successful teacher. It was while teaching in X. Flying Squadron Will Soon Reach I^ancAMter. Mr. R. S. Mlddleton, advance agent of the third division of the Flying Squadron, is in Lancaster this week arranging with Lancaster's Central prohibition committee for the coming of two speakers. ex-Governor Hanley and Hon. Oliver W. Stewart, who will represent that division of the Flying Squadron delivering a number of speeches on prohibition in various parts of the county under the auspices of the Central committee for state-wide prohibition. The exact dates and places of these meetings will be published later but they will probably be delivered between August 23rd and September 10th. A BIRJHDAY PARTY. .Miss Idllirn n ?? Olflirntrti 17tl? Anniversary. Miss Laura Wright, (laughter of Mr. anil Mrs. Wylle Wright, entertained a number of her young friends last Monday evening, August 16, the occasion being her 17th birthday. The dining room and parlor were beautifully decorated with ferns and cut flowers. After a couple of hours spent playing games and singing songs, the young peopre marched to the dining room .where a bounteous supply of delicious cakes and ices were served. The time for parting came too soon for all who were loath to leave so many good things. We all wish Miss Laura many happy returns of this pleasant day. AN ATTENDANT. Prohibition Meetings. The Central prohibition committee of Lancaster county has arranged a number of meetings in the interest of state-wide prohibition and several already held have been large gatherings in which much interest was manifested. At Taxahaw a good meeting was held last Thursday and at Black Jack church last Sun day Rev. C. E. Hurts of Columbia delivered a striking prohibition address to a large congregation. It Is to be tested for six days and if after! I demonstration it meets all require-!' ments to the satisfaction of the county commissioners, it will become j county property. The demonstrator will try out the machine this week . on certain of our roads.
