Thanksgiving Day passed quietly j
here and was observed in a very fit- !
ting manner. A number of men took 1
advantage of the holiday and hunted
in the woods hereabouts but the
majority spent the day at home with
their families. Very gratifying was
the attendance upon the union
Thanksgiving service at the Presby- j
terlati church. Rev. J. II. Thayer j
and Rev. H. R. Murchlson both made
appropriate talks and a stirring appeal
in behalf of the starving Del- ;

The members pf the Debutante
Hridge Club spent a delightful after
noon last Wednesday with Miss Llllie
Green at her hospitable home on
Chesterfield Avenue. The games of
auction bridg eafforded the members
of the club, as well as two visitors,
Misses Pearl McManus and Annie I
Waring Pickens, much pleasure and
one of the visitors. Miss McManuf j
scored highest, winning the prize, a
prety crocheted boudoir cap in blue
and white. Miss Green served an
elaborate salad course during the
afternoon.

Miss Annie Gregory was the gracious
hostess of the Chesterfield Avenue
Club yeeterd&y afternoon. A
series of nine games proved most
interesting to the score, of guests, of
whom Miss Pearl McManus scored
highest, again winning the prize, an
artistic Japanes print. Miss Gregory's
meeting was declared by all
who attended it to be one of the
very pleasantest in the history of the
club. After the games the hostess
served a delicious salad course.

It has been called to our attention
that many persons have been
using a two cent stamp where a onecent
stamp would suffice, that is on
letters mailed here addressed to persons
within the limits of the town.
Some have doubtless thought the
tvo cent stamp necessary, on account
of the fact that we have mall
delivery here. But ours is not city
delivery, hut experimental and village
delivery, which only requires a
one-cent stamp. This may save i
few pennies these hard times.
