Williams. ?The governors of the chamber of commerce will meet tonight for the purpose of electing a permanent secretary. ?Little Jay Blackmon lias been ill with pneumonia for several days, but we are glad to report that he is better. ?On Friday, May 1, 20 persons (11 white and 0 colored 1 stood the teachers' examination held at the court house. ?Mr. John Hammond and Miss Emma Stroud, both of this place, were married Sunday. May 3, Magistrate J. M. Knight officiating. ?County Superintendent of Education will not be in nls office Saturday as he will attend the commencement picnic at Oakhurst that day. ?Mr. James Ernest Stogner and Miss Minnie Pearl Byrd were married Sunday at the home of the bride's mother. Rev. J. F. Hammond officiating. ?Magistrate W. J. Crenshaw of Van Wyck was in town Monday and turned over to County Treasurer Hilton $90.80, fines colected in his 1 court the past quarter. ?Miss Mary Ellen Eaves is ill at the homo of Mrs. W. E. Taylor, with whom she boards. Miss Bessie McManus Is teaching her grade until Miss Eaves is able* to resume work. ?The Memorial Day exercises will be held next Monday afternoon, May 11, and a former Lancastrian, the Hon. Thomas F. Mr _?w of Yorkville. has been Invited to ..take the address on that occasion. ?-Hon. W. 0. Hough's name has been added to the list of speakers at the Beaver Creek church for Saturday, next. The gathering at Beaver Creek promises to be a big one with a most interesting program. ?We note^hat Mr. Charter Culp's name is given, with honorable mention on the honor roll of the Furman Fitting School. Mr. Culp is a member of the second class of the Fitting School and is making a good record there. ?The wind, which has been blowing a sharp gale during the day. got under the box-ball alley tent of Plyler Brothers and razed It to the ground. The hustling Plyler boys are now busily engaged In reerecting It and will be ready for business again by tomorrow. ?The three traveling men who were on tho committee which awarded the prizes at the exhibition of tho names on may nay, ntct not linger long in town after announcing their decision and they did not yjven leave word as to where they were going. ?The ladies who arranged the ^ program for May Day exercises deservo the thanks of the whole community.
