SOCIAL NEWS v, M B1 Mrs. James Witherspoon was hostess last week to the Friday After- st< noon Book Club at a most delightful *n T\ meeting. When the roll call had been p answered with current events, the jj play of Macbeth, which the club has mi been studying since September, was finished and a number of questions ^ relative to it were discussed. This ei( was a very full meeting or Lancaster's ly oldest club and marked the fifteenth Gi year since its organization. Thus it ^ was that the crystal anniversary was so celebrated by the gift of a handsome piece of cut glass to Mrs. T. Y. Wil- t'1 llams, the popular president of the 111 ce club. The presentation speech was or very cleverly made by Mrs. J. P. re Hunter, secretary of the club. This at or me as a complete surprise to Mrs. | Williams, who in a few well chosen rwords, gracefully thanked her club sisters for their beautiful token of love and esteem. Another pleasant feature of the afternoon was the welcome given to Mrs. Leroy Springs, who has become a member of this to charming club. The hostess served , vi delicious refreshments in several courses. ' E! # # # w Mrs. D. E. Penny was the hostess of ei the Mothers Club last Thursday af- M tsrnoon. The mothers of children In the klndgarten are members of this fr helpful club, which was recently organized through the efforts of Miss V1 Corinne Jones, the kindergarten w teacher. Mrs. Penny's living room qi was most attractively decorated with handsome Jonquils, sent for the oc- |n caslon from her old homo In Abbeville. Several papers were read and vi a peanut contest caused much amusement. This was followed by "A of Shirt Waist Romance," In which Mrs. ft, Nathan Hlrsch answered the most questions correctly. Mrs. Hlrsch was n rewarded with a lovely hand-embroidered centerpiece. Dainty re- Sp freshments were served by Misses . Florlde and Ethel Perry. I r T ? * * fr The very young set have their pleasures as well as the elders and the Sewing Club made up of eight in- to dustrlous little maids, affords much enjoyment to its youthful members, tti Two recent meetings of this club ti were much enjoyed. The first held with Miss Margaret Rradford, at the V1 home or Mr. w. us. rayior, in wesi p .End, was very pleasantly spent. Prizes were awarded the winners In an In- p terestlng little contest and a sweet n . course was served during the afternoon. n At the last meeting of this little club Miss Ethel Cauthen was Its hos- aj tess and the attractive home of her m A parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Berry Cau- , then, was the scene of a tnerry gath- , erlng. A large and a small game of lotto were the prizes awarded the m successful contestants. Enjoyable refreshments were served. Ci ? m The U.
