ZELAYA RELEASED
FROM PRISON
Nicaragua Has Withdraw Charges
of Murder Against Former
President.
New York, Dec. 3.?Jose Santos
Zelaya, the former Nlcaraguan President,
who was arrested here a week
ago at the instance of his government,
which charged him with the
murder of two countrymeu in 1907,
was released from the Tombs today
after the federal authorities here had
received word from the stato department
that Nicaragua had withdrawn
Its application for his extradition.
Two conditions were imposed upon
Zelaya, to both of which he agreed
according to his counsel, Clarence O.
Calston, who said he was in communication
indirectly with the Nicaraguan
government today through the
American state department. Zelaya,
his government stipulated, must not
mix in Central American politics and
must leave the United States for
Spain within a reasonable time.
"When he has finished the business
that brought him to New ^York,
zelaya said, he would sail ror Spain,
there t oreslde and engage In commercial
pursuits.
Conditions besides those to which
Zelaya agreed were originally imposed
by the Nlcaraguan government
Mud transmitted to his counsel here,
llr. Gaiston said The lawyer would
not disclose their nature but asserted
that he notified state department officials,
who in turn told the Nlcaraguan
government that Zelaya would
not consent to them. Mr. Gaiston
said ho would Issue a statement tomorrow
covering Zelaya's case and
this statement might contain the text
of the stipulations which Zelaya refused
to accept.
Friends of the one-time Central
American President crowded about
him with congratulations when
United States Commissioner Shields
told him he was free. "I am very
thankful for the sympathy the American
people have shown me," said
Zelaya.

"Do they miss me at home, do
they miss me?" A little observation
of life shows that some fathers are
not much missed at home. TJhey are

live will often hear the question, "Do
you have to go, Daddy?" In a plainlive,
wistful tone. The hour has come
when he has to go back to work or
business and this to the children

"Work" and "business" are to them
vague masters of some kind that
daily take "daddy" away from the
home and them. They begrudge
Ihese tyrannous demands on "daddy"
?nd do not more than half believe in
the neceerity alleged. So when he
reaches for his hat to go there is a
helpless little protest?"Do you have
to go, Daddy?"
This question is the finest of compliments
to faithful fatherhood. Little
children know nothing of indirection,
the little Insincerities of social
Intercourse, the pretense of concern
where there is none at heart. This
question from their lips means all it
Implies, and what it implies is evi dence
of fidelity to his trust in a
father. He that has never heard his
own children ask that question with
falling faces and wistful emphasis on
the "have to," and?it may be added
?has never felt a responsive wistful
regret in his own heart, has been
false to his trust somehow. Aye, and
has missed something from life this
pen cannot adequately bring to
-vision.
There may be grandfathers whose
eyes light on these lines. Memory
will recall for them the days when
many a time and oft the little ones,
now erown un and flown from the old
neat, used to ask that very question
In that very manner of them. Perhaps
grandchildren ask It of them
now?and Is there n nweeter, more
comforting question to be asked of
declining age by rising childhood
