session for this year the Fork Hill on
Sunday by celebrating the one hunsession
for this year at Fork Hill on
Fork Hill church. Dr. J. H. Holdridge
preached the sermon. He rend
the covenant adopted there one hunj
dred years ago; also read accounts of
the great revival there in 183 9 and
pointed out the fact that it is almost
certain that tfis church had a woman's
mission- ry society before any
other Baptist church in this state.
He read a list of the pastors and commented
on them especially Rev.
John S. Croxton, who 'was there so
long and did such a grand work;
also on the present pastor. 'Rev. T. A.
Dabney. The collection for missions
was $100.25. Rev. R. Thomas Hlackmon
preached in the afternoon. The
crowds were large all the time and
the hospitality was well up to the
usual custom of that community.
f Annual Meeting of Lancaster Bible
Society. I
The Lancaster Bible 8oclety held
its annual session In the Baptist
church last Sunday evening. Addresses
were made by Rev. H. R.
Murchlson and Rev. K. T. Hodges.
Rev. J. H. Boldridge made a few
brief remarks. The old officers were
elected with the exception that Mr.
O. W. Williams was elected depositary
and he will have charge of the
Bibles, which are on sale In the Bank
of Lancaster. The collection amounted
to about $40. The president
thinks that when the people have
time to think on the things contained
in the above mentioned addresses
another^ evening may be devoted to
this work and a larger collection obtained.
This Is a great work and
V worthy of the best endeavor.
