ATTACKED BY A COW.
Mrs. W. D. Craig Narrowly Escapes (
Serious Injury.
What might have been a very serious
accident , happened Saturday
afternoon to Mrs. W. D. Craig at her
home on Market street. Finding
that her cow was in the vegetable
garden, Mrs. Craig went to drive her
out and while leaning over to fasten
a buckle on Its halter, the cow lifted
Mrs. Craig off her feet by its horns.
Though very much frightened, Mrs.
Craig felt no other bad effects at the
time, but has since found it painful
to move about. She says It hurts to
draw a deep breath, but it is hoped
that this is merely from the jolt and
the shock.
Tirzah Bible Society.
The 55th annual meeting of the
Tirzah Bible Society will be held at
Tirzah church, just beyond the state
line, on Saturday, July 26th instant.
The Rev. A. J. Crowe of Marshville, (
N. C., will delived the annual address.
This society is one of the I
strongest auxiliaries of the American
Bible Society in this section of the
South and is annual gatherings are
always looked forward to with great
interest and mark the home coming
of many of those who have gone to
other parts of the world. These
meetings Include persons from many
counties In both North and South
Carolina. Let all who can attend the
meeting this year.

The result of the game played Saturday
between Lancaster Cotton Mill
and Rock Hill Aragon team resulted
on a victory for Lancaster Cotton
Mill by a score of 6 to 1. The battery
work of the Lancaster team was
the feature, Snipes pitching a no-hlt
game, assisted by th excellent catching
and coaching of Mobley.

An Exciting Runaway.
A pair of mules belonging to Mr.
W. J. Snipes created considerable excitement

Gay street and Into a telephone pole
near Mackorell's grocery store. The
vehicle, a carriage to which they
were hitched, was damaged to the ex- ;
tent of a broken pole. Fortunately
the driver and the mules escaped unhurt.
Corner Stone Laying.
The laying of the corner stone to '
the new school building at Midway '
will be laid Thursday, July 24, under
the auspices of the Junior Order,
Woodmen of the World, Daughters
of America and the Sunday school.
Each organization will be represented
by a distinguished speaker.
The public has a cordial welcome
and are requested to bring well-fllled
baskets.
Death of a Little Child.
Crawford, the 10-montha-old child
of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. MehafTey of
Lancaster, died Sunday morning at
6:30 o'clock of cholera infantum.
The remains were burled at Douglass
church Monday at 11 o'clock, the
services being conducted by Rev. E.
T. Hodges.
Fire Near Elgin.
A tenant house on the Buck Cauthen
place, near Elgin, belonging to
Dr. J. E. and Mr. Henry F. Halle was
destroyed by lire Sunday night about
8 o'clock.

Another purty enjoyed by a still
younger set was the one given yesterday
by little Miss Eugenia Adams
at the home ot her parents, Mr. and ,
Mrs. Allen Adams. The hostess was
