much improved. He was so much
better that he went back to his post

and little Miss Margaret Penny, who
are at the hospital in Chester, are
both Improving and will soon be at
home again.

An Interesting ami DellKhtful Event
of Wednesday Afternoon.
In respouse to invitations issued
several days before to an afternoon
affair in honor of her guest, Miss
Susie Dowdell, of Newnan, Ua., a
number of friends of Miss Maude
Gregory gathered at her hospitable
uumo uu c;nesierneid avenue, last
Wednesday afternoon. Immediately
on their arrival the guests were refreshed
with grape juice punch, served
by Misses Mary Moore and Leila
Gregory in a cool retreat on the
porch. They were then welcomed
by Miss Annie Gregory and her
mother, Mrs. Alice Gregory, who
with three other daughters, Mrs. R.
L. Mason of Atlanta, Mrs. J. C.
Miller of Jefferson and Mrs. J. U.
Bell of this place, received in the
spacious hall, where the friends of
the hostess were gathered. The
hostess and the honoree did not immediately
appear, but it soon became
evident that there was about
to take place an event of unusual
interest. Presently Mr. and Mrs.
John H. Poag went into the left parlor,
where Mr. Poag sang, a beautiful
selection, "With You In the Laud
of Love." Immediately Mrs. Poag
began to play softly that favorite,
the "Bridal Chorus," from Lohengrin,
and a bevy of attractive young
girls descended the stairs. Misses
Nannie Hill Moore and Corinne
Thomson came first. Then Misses
Louise Wylie and Dorothy Moore;

Johnson and after thom MllSM
Carrie Gregory and Kate McManus.
These lovely bridesmaids wore
dainty white lingerie gowns and carried
arm bouquets of ferns tied with
white tulle. Little Miss Martha
VanLandingham came next, carrying
the ring. She wus daintily clad in a
white lingerie dress with white ribbons.
All Interest was centered in the
next couple. Miss Maude Gregory,
the handsome bride, came leaning
on the arm of her friend, the maid of
honor, Miss Susie Dowdell of Newnan,
Ga. Miss Gregory wore a lovely
gown of shadow lace. Her only
ornament was a diamond pendant,
the gift of the groom. Miss Dowdell
wore a charming gown of lingerie
with a girdle of nile green satin.
Both carried large bouquets of ferns
and fragrant white jasmine. The
bride and her maid tooa their places
within the circle of fair attendants
in the ceremony room which was
simply but tastefully decorated in
fern and snow-white wedding bells.
The bride was joined before the Improvised
altar by the groom. Mr. R.
H. Hutcheson, of Marietta. Ga., who
entered from a side door, with the
best man, Mr. J. U. Bell. The Impressive
ceremony was performed
by Rev. G. S. Tumlln, pastor of the
First Baptist church of Marietta. I
After congratulations and best
wishes had been extended,' the guests
were Invited Into the dining room,
where green and white ices and cake
were served by several little girls.
In the present room, a splendid assortment
of gifts eras displayed,
china, cut glass and silver, besides
other pretty and useful articles.
Immediately after the informal reception
the bride and groom left for
an extended honeymoon, which will
be spent in the North. The bride
wore a becoming suit of gray cloth
with a hat to match trimmed with
a shaded gray and cerise plume.
Mrs. Hutcheson will be missed Iri
Lancaster, where she was bom and
reared. She Is a capable and popular
young woman, a graduate , of
Wlnthrop College and a most successful
teacher. She Is a daughter
of Mrs. Alice Gregory and the late
Joseph F. Gregory, who was clerk of
the court of Lancaster county for j
many years. Mr. Hutcheson Is a
successful business man of Marietta,
Oa. He is manager of a large manufacturing
concern in that place. He
and his bride will be at home in Marietta
after August the first.
Good Oat Yield.
Mr. J. E. Craig of this county,
whose aggressive and progressive
methods of farming are known of all
men hereabouts, threshed out 190
bushels of oatsXfrom 2 V4 acres of
uplanJ. Thsr^ats were cut and tied
with a cgBper and binder in the
spacj^r two hours. Mr. Craig sowad^tfe
oats October fast and the only
fertilizer used was a ton of cottonseed
meal to the acre. From another
piece of land. Mr. Craig got
960 bushels, making an average of
40 bushels to the acre. His wheat
was also very fine this year.
Mr. J. C. Bowling Resigns.
Mr. J. C. Bowling has resigned his
position as overseer of the weave department
of the Lancaster cotton

about a year and a half. Mr. Bowling
expects to leave shortly for
Heath Springs, where he will be engaged
In farming. We regret to lose
him and his family as citizens of the
town. Mr. Bowling will be succeeded
by Mr. D. A. Jolly, formerly with
the Chesnee (S. C.) mills.
Injured by Cow.
Dr. M. R. Witherspoon, while tying
out his cow to graze early Wednesday
morning, was suddenly Jerked
to the ground, causing his right
arm to be dislocated at the shoulder.
Dr. "R. C. Brown was called In and
reset the injured arm and Dr.
Witherspoon is now doing as well as
could be expected.
