nent citizen of Win gate, N. C.,
died last Saturday. He was in
his 52nd year.

Mr. T. O. Blackmon, who has
been sick for a couple of weeks,
was able to resume charge of his
road work this week. He will
complete this week his section of
road from this side of Elgin to
PleasantJHill.
There was an alarm of fire
here Tuesday night, to which the
efficient fire company promptly
responded. The fire, however,
proved to be only the burning
out of a chimney at the home of
Mr. W. F. Broom.
The home of Rev. Withers, a
colored Methodist preacher, near
Mr. W. J. Ingram's store on
Hagins street, was destroyed by
fire Saturday morning. Part of
the household effects were saved.

awarded quite a large contract
of plumbing in Lancaster. He
will do the plumbing for the new |
hotel. Our Lancaster friends will

The little daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. G. Hayes, of Sharon.
York county, died Tuesday, aged |
about one year. This makes the
4th child the bereaved parents
have lost. The mother, as is well
known, was formerly Miss Sue
Green of this county.
