THE TRESTLE TR 6EDY.
J ) ' * The Strange Negro Found
\ ^ F*atally Injured Under j
r the Trestle Near Town
Was, it is Believed, Aaron
* Ford, of Fairfield.
It is now reasonably certain
that the strange negro who died
near here Friday night of last j
week from injuries received,presumably,
from falling off a rail-:
f road trestle west of town, was
Aaron Ford, from Fairfield coun-;
ty. A man answering to his
description, and giving Aaron
Ford as his name, stopped at the
home of Mr. Earnest Bell in the j
Tank section, twelve miles from
. Lancaster. the night l>efore
about 10 o'clock and inquired
L - the way to the nearest trial jus4
i/?/% ? T MMykAM
f, 11V.C rtliu UIC U loirtlin: IU LittllV-dOter,
where Sheriff Hunter could
fbe found. The negro was badly
frightened and had evidently
been traveling fast. He said
he was being chased by a crowd
I , V-v of negroes from his home in
j Fairfield who wanted to lynch
I him for an alleged attempt at
* criminal assault, and that he
u had crossed the river and was
making his way to a magistrate
S H or the sheriff for protection. He
I said he knew Sheriff Hunter
! and .preferred to surrender to
him. Mr. Hell directed the man
how to reach Lancaster, ajtf^he
at once, struck out in ha^e on
i J i the road to this place. It is
'i thought that in crossing the
the railroad trestle Thursday
night or early Friday morning
#\ he ^accidentally fell, sustaining
if \ injuries that resulted in
j 0 death'.
t It will be recalled that among
i 4 the articles found in the man's
s | pockets was a note in relation to
~ t * a mule, addressed to "Mr. Cane-1
f< J dy" and signed "A. A. Hollis."

Hollis'. Mr. Hollis lives at
