Mr. George Heath ami Mian Connie

A popular young couple in
Lancaster surprised their numerous
friends by getting married
last Monday night, the contracting
parties being Mr. George
Heath and Miss Connie Davis.
The ceremony was performed
about 8 o'clock at the Presby
teriau manse, by the pastor, the
Rev. Chalmers Fraser.
The handsome groom, as is
well known, is the eldest son ot
Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Heath, of
Charlotte, and is now the tiav
eling representative of the Armour
company of Chicago. He
is a young man of exceptionally
tine business capacity, and be.

is exceedingly popular with all
who know him.
The charming bride, who is
the eldest daughter of Mr. and;

a young lady of striking beauty
and magnetic personality and
has hosts of admirers.

on the graded school grounds.
I'he inspecting officers were Lieut.
Cabauiss. of the I'nited States
army, and C?pt. Lindsay, of the
Yorkville company.
The young soldiers passed
through the trying ordeal in tine
shape.executing the various orders
with remarkable accuracy and
precision, making a general average
of about 95. They were j
highly complimented on their
marked proficiency by the inspectors,
one of whom said, it ,
is stated, that the company's inspection
was the second best in
the State.
The members of the company
were served with a delicious repast
in tlie evening by their
commanding officer, C'apt. .lames
L. Hunter, at his charming home

Mill several weeks ago, died at
his home in the outskirts of town*

Charlotte Observer: In a dispute
over the possession of some
whiskey at Waxhaw last night,
Thomas L. Davis, former cotton ?
weigher, shot Charles Gamble in
the intestines, inflicting a wound
from which the victim may die.
Mr. Gamble is a barber at Waxhaw
and a brother of James
Gamble, who was elected cotton
weigher at the last election.
Davis and James Gamble had a
very hot tight for the nomination,
and it took three primaries to
decide it. A great deal of bitter

Novelist Marion Crawford '
Dead?His Last Words.
Sorrento, Italy, April 10.?F, <
Marion Crawford, the novelist,
died here at half-past 7 o'clock
tonight. Mr. Crawford had
been ill for some time, one o' the
symptoms of his alllictions being
fevers which tended greatly to
weaken him. The novelist's
last words were: 'T euter se- l
renely into eternity."
Sadlv he expressed the pre-'

sentiment that he was soon to
die, but almost immediately afterwards,
when referring to the
approaching Good Friday, he '
said: "1 die with Christ '* Mr.
