shows that the prospect tor the

Duncan had been careless in coo
trading and discharging debts,
the commission decided nevertheless
that, all ihingsconsidered,
tnore harm would be done the
church by a severauoe of his relations
as pastor than by his continuance
in his present station,
and therefore reccomtnend the
declination ol the resignation.
Elder J lv. Morrison of States
yille, chairman of ihe commis
sion, without going into details,
explained the pains which the
commission had taken to probe
the matter to the bottom, stating
that, among other things, the
commission had held at least one
session which lasted nearly all
night
Following the settlement of the
Duncan matter the Presbytery
adjourned sine die.

The Atlanta Journal: Some
interesting and profitable advice
on the dangers of a preacher
wearing damp socks was given
the Baptist Ministers' association
Monday morning by Rev. A. T.
Spalding. It is rash negligence
for any man to let his socks re
main damp, the doctor explained,
but the preacher is liable in this
respect to particular temptations
and disasters. Then Dr. Spalding
went on to untold a sound and
striking theory.
"When a man is preaching,"
said he, "that ia if he is preaching
earnestly, the blood leaves
his feet and torso and gathers
about his brain. You all know
every time you think, a certain
amount of blood is required.
It iR therefore natural that at
the close of a sermon, a preacher's
feet should be cold. Moreover,
the toe of his sock will be damp.
Now if he fails to change his socks
he is open to all kinds ot throat
or even pulmonary troubles. 1
will say personally that I always
carry a pair ot dry socks in my
pocket."
It is the lack of such precautions,
said the doctor, that
gives rise to nine tenths ot
the well-known complaint call
eil "clergyman's sore throat."
Dr. Spalding's remarks prompted
by Dr. Julian Rodgers, who
had made* some announcements
in rather a hoarse voice. The
advice was received with applause,
alter which the ministers
indulged in a good deal ot keen
speculation as to just how long
a preacher could safely and consistently
remain in the same pair
of socks he had preached in.
Opinion on this matter was
divided. Some contended that
the pa9tor should make the
change immediately; others that
this would intail serious embarrasment
and oftentimes down
right hardship especially in those
churches where no study or anteroom
has been provided.
Everybody, however, agreed
that Dr. Spalding's advice was
seasonable and hereafter Atlanta
Baptist ministers will no doubt
adopt the hvgenic custom 01 carrying
an ex'ra Dair of socks
whenever they preach.
