market. The prevailing price lioro
this week was 9 cents, while otlior
markets were paying only from 8 ">-8 to

Tho generally accepted theory is that

last Tuesday was caused by smoke
from the great forest fires in the north
and northwest.
The Taxahaw school will open next
Monday, 26th instant, with Mr. <?. \Y,
Chalmers, of Houston, Va., as teacher.

A. Ii. Hammond, of tho vicinity of
Stoneboro, died on the 15th instant, of
whooping cough, aged about live weeks.
The burial was at Boaver ('reek Baptist

visiting friends. Mr. Query is a son of
Hev. .1. W. Query, who about litteen
years ago was pastor of the Presbyterian
church at Lancaster. Mr. Query
had been to Lancaster to inspect a lot
of cattle which the owner wished to

Mr. J. L. Fitts, of Atlanta,
. Ga., national speaker and organizer
of (he Socialist party,
will be in Lancaster tomorrow
and Monday, speaking here on
the latter day. Mr. Fitts is a
first honor graduate of the South
Carolina Military Academy at
Charleston and has been lecturing
on Socialism for several years
throughout the country.
We know of no Socialists in
ihese paitR, but no doubt a number
of our citizens, prompted by
curiosity, will $o out to hear Mr.
