day afternoon a large oak tree
within thirty teet of Judtre Em

Lancaster Negress Convicted in
Kershaw of Whiskey Selling.

Chief Hough on last Saturday
arrested Dot Moore, a negro wo
man who came to Kershaw from
Lancaster, on the charge of whiskey
selling, and captured two
half pints which she had with
her at the time. On Monday
she pleaded guilty to the charge
and asked for mercy. It being
her first offence she was dismissed
with a $25 fine, with the understanding
that she leave townBen
Gaither, colored, was also
fined $10 for being implicated
with her.

Tuesday, which was held in a
large tent, about 400 persons
were present, many of them being
ladies. Col. L. O. Hough,
Kershaw's courtly and fearless
mayor, presided, and the meetwas
opened with prayer by the
Rev. Herbert Martin. The Heath
Springs meeting Wednesday was
opened with prayer by the Rev.
