Our neighboring towns oi Chester and Monroe each has a street named Lancaster. It's n wonder Rock Hill doesn't call one of her muddy high "ays "Lancaster Avenue."' No doubt a man could go into a New York court and enjoin bis wife from compelling him to butlon up her waist in the back.? Rochester IK raid. If he did she would doubtless rip him up the back. That's a v?.Id ;.nd woolly storv Editor Hull, of Rock Hill, ieiL about the manner in which h^ hurt his hand. Whoever heard of a newspaper man having enough money to lay out in piles of "l's, 2's, 5'a. 10's."etc., to bo counted? Had he said that he had bruised his lean paw reaching out aftej- i the disappearing coat tails of u j delinquent subscriber we would have believed him. The Fort Mill Times throws the following neat bouquet at Lancaster's new mayor: The citizens ol Lancaster are ] to be congratulated upon the excellent judgment displayed in the selection of Mr. T. Mcl. 1 Ilughes as mayor o: that town, Mr. Hughes is a successful bu : ness man, a citizen who lakes pride in his town, and under higuidance Lancaster m<\v be ex pet ted to set a more glib pace in the march ot progress. And, b.\ the way, Mr. Hughes is another ^'ort Mill man who i- helping to make Lancaster famous. 1 he Chester Camera makes the following timely suggestion to our lawmaker*, who will a<- ( pemble in Columbia next. Turn day : One thought ought to be kept in the mind t?y every representative m the legislature? that we cannot glFord everything that is good, and everything that would ' pay if we had the capital to invest. in it. It would pay many ? family to lay in their fuel in the summer rattier than buy h dollar'' worth or less at a time ill the winter, if they had the THE LAM means. Handsome dwellings with all modern conveniences for us all would be a good thing if we could all afford it. Our law makers should constantly remember that there are many worthy causes, so urgent, too, that they border upon necessity, which we must get along without in public as in private affairs. The Iiev. R. L.' Robinson, the able and scholarly pastor of the j Associate Reformed Presbyte rian church of Camden, Ala., in a loiter enclosing check in pavment of his subscription to The News, says : ' The News is a welcome visitor, i 'There's wit there veMl <*et there! & ! ye'H find nae i'her where',as the Scotchman would say." TO OPPOSE Mil. FINLEY. The Gaffnev correspondent of the News and Courier states that Mr. T. B. Butler, a well-known lawyer r.f that city, lias definitely decided to enter the race for Congress from this distrinct in the approaching campaign. In making the announcement ilie correspondent say-: Mr. lint lor ha ? keen urg9d to take this stop, in thus opposing Mr. Finlev, by his many admirers, not only in his home county, but it) all the counties ot the 51ft district, lie realizes I he popu larity and strength ot his opponent, the present Representative, but through assurance from I many sources he has been made sanguine ot success. His friends in Cherokee county assure him that out of the 2,900 votes in Cherok?e he will easily get over 2,500, this by no means beinir a mean send off. ()l course he expects York to support, Mr. Finley, but he also expects a lively! contes' in t'?? remaining counties. Mr. Butler's friends are, elated over the fact that he will make the race; they say that he is a ''catchy fellow" on the stump mkI a strong speaker \vi h ' a firm grip on the people.
