3rd. They now have forty-fou
members and some candidatei
in waiting. Last Saturday nigh
the Odd Fellows invited the en
tiro Council to a banquet. Thii
was indeed a gracious coureoj
on the part of the Odd Fellows
but, well?how could the Ode
Fellows do anything else??The

in Salisbury.
Charlotte, N. C. JSov. 9.?Fire
that broke out early this morn
ing in W. H. HufFs grocery stort
at Salisbury, N. C., destroyed
the famous old Mansion block,
part of which was built before
the Revolutionary war, and a
number of other store*. The loss
is $50,000, partly covered by in
sarance. A number of people
were overcome by smoke and
rescued by the firemen.
It was in the Mansion block
that Mrs. Elizabeth Maxwell
Steele entertained G<'n. Greene,
and it is said that Gen. Wash
ington dined there.
Texan Killed His Wife.
Houston, Tex.. Nov. 10.?The
eight yeer-old daughter of Mat
thew W. Anderson, a railroad
clerk, early today found the dead
body of her mother in the kitclipn
of their home in Hnuatnn
Heights, her head almost completely
severed from the body,
the woman having met her death
at the hands of her husband.
An unsigned note from the
husband declares thai returning
home at an earlier hour, than
usual today he found another
man in his home and this being
the second such occurrence, '4I
felt obliged to wreak vengoance
on my only love."
