BUSINESS M iNAGEH. Entered us second-class matter, Oct. 7. IPO", at the nostofllce at I.ttneaster S C. under of Con'tfrem of Mwrcta 3. 1 H7i? Wednesday, Au^u.-t 28, 19<?7. The Spartanburg county oot ton growers' association, at a a meeting Saturday, passed a resolution "that thirteen cents be fix<d as the minimum price of cotton." The same day 3t?5 bales of old cotton were sold in Gaffney for 13? cents. In Saturday's isMie of The News, in discussing the value of building and loan associations to a community, we suggested that i lt.? T - - - - - ? * li tue ivanc isier associanons would do a litlle advertising they might greatly enlarge their volume of business. It appears from tlie advertising columns of Joday's paper that at le?st one of the local associations has concluded to mtke the experiment. We trus' that others will do likewise. x ue i itxiiici s are reminded of the tact that a meeting will be held liere next Saturday to or gan'ze a branch of the Farmers' Educational and Co-operative Union. The call issued tor the meeting was published in the last issue of The News. These Unions are being rapidly organized all over the South. Ivan easier is one 01 trie ;ew counties in South Carolina without a Union. Something of the history ol the organization, it will he recalled, was recently published in this paper. Our rival fruit eating contemporary, the Chester Lantern, , stops gnawing in old over-work ed peach kernel long enough to disclaim the autho:ship of that "poach of a girl" article we recently credited to it and upon which we briefly commented. Brother Bigham even has the n una'/Jij tu on > i i uh n*? uurnu t know what a "peach of a girl" is. Ilis devil, we dare say, would be ashamed to make a confession so lacking in gallantry. However, as to the alleged erroneous credit. We were certain that we c'ipp d the article in question f'om our esteemed contemporary's columns? from either its issue of Aug. 16 or 22, and to remove all doubt we trust that Editor Bigham will reter to his files. If it be shown that we are really mistaken, ample apologies will be forthcoming. j bi - ^ ^ JUL LA M THE CROPS IN 1832 ndj The account published else pei where of the famous oaf crop ^U1 made in Lancaster in 18S2 by am 8 Wi the late Col.
