Some good oat growers advise
sowing the oa's broadcast and
plowing uiem under, leaving ute
land rough. Others advocate

row"system that has so often
been described in The Progres
sive Fanner. The pnnciple in
each case is the same: th'at of
] utting the oil's deep in the
ground and allowing the winter
freezes to pulverze the land and
slowly fi 1 in around the plant.

standing crop and then cover the
seed by running a light harrow
or cultivator between the rows.

the clover seed. Sow at the rate

per acre. Where there is doub'

it will be well to mix rye with
the clover seed, s ty, six to eight

and half bushel of rye.
Rape for winter grazing for
hogs, sheep, and possibly dry
cat tie, can be put in this month.
It will bo well lor our farmers to
experiment with this compara%
tively new crop to most of them
and learn its value as a forage
plant. If put in broadcast, plant
six to eight pounds of peed per
acre, and, if drilled, from three
to five pounds per a^re/ *
In this connection it may he
well to remind our farmers ot t lie
