?The farmers report fine rains
throughout the county during the
past few days. Crops are generally
good, though cotton is late
as compared with last year's crop.
The most of the farmers are
through laying by and are now
enjoying their much-needed
rest.
?Elvin Kelly, the negro charged
with robbing the L. & 0. depot,
as published in the last issue
of The i>ews, was arrested Satur
day by Sheriff Hunter and lodged
in jail. The case against Kelly
was worked up by Sheriff Hunter
with his usual skill. He had
the evidence in hand before the
warrant of arrest was issued.

pears, whica fruit is almost as
rare this season as apples. Mr.
Pardue also kindly brought us ai

cluster of beets, 14 in number,
