A Domestic Tragedy.
Wife Burns Husband to
Death in Order to Marry
Former Lover.
Scranton, Pa., July 4.?Mrs.
Kindra Howrsto, aged 18 years,
of Dunmore, is in the county jail,
charged with having burned her
husband to death that she might
be free to raarrv her former lover,
Igualz Hutro, who is also in jail,
charged with being an accessory.
The police say that Mrs. Howrsto
has confessed.
All the parties are Lithunians.
According to the story told
the police by Mrs. Uowrsto she
and Hutro were lovers before
she married Howrsto in the old
counfiy two years, ago. Hutro
^preceded them to this country.
When they came here they settled
near where Hutro was living
in the Nay Aug section of Dunmore
borough. Hutro renewed
his attentions to Mrs. Howrstc
il and frequently was at their home,
According to her confession
Hutro came to the Howrsto
home on Monday and suggested
that she do away with her husband
so that they could be mar?
ried. Following Ilutro's sugges
tion the woman got her husband
drunk and when he was stupefied
in bed she went to the room
with the kerosene lamp. She
poured the oil from the lamp on
tne oea ana men sue says tlie
lamp dropped on the bed,setting
it afire. At the sight of her husband
roasting and squirming ir
the flaming bed she became hor
ror-stricken and rushed from
the house crying "fire." Neighbors
extinguished the flames
and had Howrsto sent to a hos
pital, where he died without regaining
consciousness.
Hutro denied all knowledge oi
the crime. Both are being held
pending an investgation of the
woman's story.

Sensation.
Charlotte Observer: That arrest
and bail proceedings will bo
instituted against Mr. J R. Lernmond,
brother of Miss Emma
Lemmond, w?s the announcement
made yesterday by counsel
for Mr. Henry Hirech. These are
Messrs. J. D. McCaU, F. Marion
Redd and J. L. DeLaney. As
oimiu tti mtj papers nave oeen presented
to the clerk of the court,
Mr. J. A. Russell ,and the amount
of bond fixed by him, the papers
will be served on Mr. Lemmond
and he can be tried or give bond.
This, it is said, ii usually about
half the amount demanded in
damages. No action will be taken
against the parents of the
former Miss Lemmond. This is
another interesting outgrowth of
' the alleged marriage of Mr.
Qirsch and Miss Emma Lero
mond at the home of 'Squire
Bailesjust across the line in
1 South Carolina, and which was
..lleged by the young woman af1
terward to have been performed
through force and therefore null
1 and void. Mr. Hirsch was prosecu'ed
for simple assault, but this
' prosecution was withdrawn Saturday
and a counter suit for $ 10,
' 000 damages, alienation of wife's
1 affection, mental anguish, damage
to reputation, false imprisoo!
ment and the like was lodged
by Liirsch against the Lemmonds.
5 The arrest and bail proceedings
: are instituted in connection
with this suit.
