A Day of Violent Deaths.
Tourist Printer Shot?Four
Deaths From Powder Explosion
and rwo Accidental
Killings.

This city and immediate section
has been the scene of ~o less
than seven violent deaths todav.:
A powder explosion at the Kami
Powder Works, at Dossetts,
Tenn., caused (he dea'hs of lour
workmen and the injury of one
other. Kryor E. Beeler, an 18year-old
boy, shot and killed A.
II. Wroten, a tourist printer,
who hails from Raleign, N. C.
Beeler claims the shooting was
accidental, but eye-witnesses
say otherwise. Clinton Ray
shot and killed Charles Johnson
because, as Ray says, Johnson
was imposing on his relatives.
John Clifton, aged six years,
son of a prosperous farmer living

cidentrtlly killed by his 8-yearold
brother, who was ploying
^ with a shotgun. Tlie little fellow's
head was blown off.

aftermath of the premature ending
of the legislative investigation
of tho charges against United
Staies Senator Bailey came in
the House today, when several
Representatives denounced in
heated speeches the language
Bailey used on the (1 >or of the
House lost evening in addressing
those members who voted against
him. Bailey's assertions were
characterizjd as lies; his language
as indecent and abusive,
and his manner an insult to the
House. Representative Sam
Johnson, one of the minority,
denounced Bailej' as a "willful,
^ malicious and premeditated
liar."

Senator Culberson, of Texas,
tells a good story about an old
gentleman who was one of the
earlv settlors of the now famous
town of Brownsville, on the Rio
Grande. The old resident referr
ed to was a good Methodist, but
possessed a llery temper, and
when aroused he was by no means
a pleasant subject to come in contact
with. One dav one of the
old man's favorite hounds was
shot end killed by a bully, a man
who had been in more fights than
any man in that section, llis
fighting reputation, however, did
not keep the old man from hunting
him up and giving him a
thrashing, an 1 then he announced
:

John Schaber, owner of the
Schaber picture mou'ding fictory
at Cleveland, Ohio, after
the burning of hU factory, Thursday,
entailing a loss of $60,000,
fatally shot himself, saying that
lie was too old to begin life
anew.
Rev. J. B. Little, a Baptist
minister, his father and mother,
and his wife and three children
were killed at Carmi, 111., and
his hou^e totally destroyed by
an explosion of dynamite,
which he had bought to blow up
stumps, last Friday.
Running: forty miles an hour, a
passenger train on the B. & O.
was wrecked at Indian Creek,
east of Oonnellsville, Pa., on the
1 Rt inst, hilling the engineer and
injuring: many passengers. The
entire train was burned.
The governor of Arkansas has
signed the new law, in that State,
prohibiting: pool selling on horse
racing: and makin? it a felony,
punishable with a fine of $500
and a term not to exceed six
months.
It is estimated by the I'oRt
Office department that 300 sacks
of mail were burned in the wreck
011 the G. S. & F. railroad near
Udalia, Ga. Feb. 25th.
A sensation was caused at Spencer,
N. C., Friday, by the arrest
of Miss Lillian Weant, quite
popular in society there, charged
with concealing the birth of a
child. She admitted giving birth
to the child, that it was born
dead, and that she concealed it
in her lather's barn, where it
was found, two weeks ago.
Near Cedar Springs, Ga., Fri.
day night, an S. A. L. passenger
train ran into the rear end of a
freight. The engineer was cremated
under his engine and the
fireman, baggage master, mail
clerk and one or two passengers
soriouf-ly injured. The train took
fir? and burned.
M'rae, Ga., Mar. 1.?Hon. L.
P. Jones was accidentally killed
by a limb falling on him while
asleep in his tent yesterday on a
fishing expedition on the Ocmul
gee river.
