The disgusting mosquitoes, bats and chicken mites came back during the warm spell of! weather this week, evidently thinking that there was some mistake about summer being over. Mr. Paul M. Brice, editor of the Columbia Kecord, died Wednesday, of cancer of the tongue, at his old home in Winnsboro. He was one of the best all-round newspaper men in the state. He was a careful, painstakiug writer and treated every subject handled hv him with the utmost, fair ness. The editor of the Wateree Messenger is appealing to "some of our subscribers" to send him a Thanksgiving turkey, and the editor of the Kershaw Era wants some of his patrons to haul him some wood. We are more fortunate than our Camden and Kershaw brethren. We raise our own turkeys and we are near enough to Rock Hill to keep warm. The Herald, one of our es teemed Rock Hill contemporaries, side-steps our chariot race challenge and makes elaborate defense of Rock Hill's now fa rnous "electric railway" and its street sprinkler. No defense was necessary, contemporary. The News lias simply been try ing to help you exploit their transcendent attractiveness and indispensable usefulness, as well as the city's enterprise. Ilock Hill should be, and no doubt is, proud of its public utilities, even though one ol them, the "hay burner," is a little out of date. The city is at least that much ahead of Lancaster, which is saying a good deal. The Herald also takes occasion to thank us tor advertising its''little city to such a large extent."
