News in Kershaw. School Closed this Week on Account Scarlatina in the Town?Chief Hough Hot After Alleged Blind Tigers ?Other Items of Interest. Culled from the Eta. Three cases ot scarlatina are reported iu town and it will be well enough tor parents to take proper precaution with their children. The reported cases are two little children of Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Thies and Mr. J B. Magill's son Rogers. The parents of the affected children are themselves acting with due caution against a spread of the disease by keeping the members of their families at home, allowing no visitors. The board of trustees yester day afternoon decided to close down the school lor the remainder tf this week and they request that, the children be kept at home. We hare been requested to say also that the town author ities ask that this request of the trustees be respected by the parents. * * * Chief Hough searched the home ot Jack Mayhue Saturday afternoon and found two gallons of whiskey and nine empty jugs ? In connection with this haul he arrested Mayhue, Dave Jacobs. Darling Johnston and Ed. Council, all colored, on the charge of selling whiskey.#The last named lie caught in the act of selling and delivering the goods. Each of the accused was re quired to give a cash bond. * * * Messrs. E. D. Blakeney and Leroy S. Davidson appeared before the railroad commissioners in Columbia last week with a petition from the business men ol Kershaw for a telegraph oflice to be maintained here separate from the depot. * * * Mr. Tlios. Bell, son of Mr. T. 8. Bell, who lives near Kershaw, was in town one day last week with a case of smallpox but did not know the nature of his ailment until told by the physicians, since which time he has remained at home. * * * Married Sunday Nov. 4. 1906, Mr. Guard Reeves to Miss Docia Mahaffey, of the Flint Ridge section, by Notary 1'tihlic J. Cauthen, of Sumter county, spent a couple of days in in Kershaw last week visiting his 8'sters, Mrs. W. W. Uorton, Mrs. L. E. Truesdel and Miss Eunice Cauthen. Mrs. W. R. Hough, of Cam den, is visiting her sister, Mrs. G. T. Horton, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Mr. Editor : Knowing that "The Lancastei News" is stiiving to do its bes tor the interests of Lancastei County, as well as for the pro gressive little city, I would like to ask the opinion of its editoi in regard to a matter, whicl seems to me to be a ''good thing.' Why should Lancaster lei other counties get ahead of her when by little effort, she cat "keep in puce" with tliem? She has organized a Medical Assoeialion, which is a very wise step Now why shouldn't she have something that nearly all othei counties in the State have? This is a Rural Free Delivery Carriers Association. I only wish to sug gest llie matter, for if you think well of it, I am sure that you will do what you can for it. They generally meet on holidays.
