Blackmon, of | the Fork Hill section, who has been sick lor the past three months, has about recovered his usual health. He was in town Monday. ?Mr. Paul K<>83 Moore, of Lancaster, student ot the South Carolina University, has be?n elected vice-president of the German Club, the leading social or ganization of the University. ?Mr. John C. Nelson, one ol Lancaster county's oldestcitizens, who resides some miles north of town, has be-n quite sick re cently, though reported to be some better Monday. Mr. Nelson will be 91 years old 'f he lives to see the 5th of next month. ?The total enrollment of Lan caster's white graded schools is 411, against 406 the first month of last year's session. There has. been an increase of 13 per cent, in the Central school and a decrease of 25 per cenl. in the Factory school. ?Mr. W. I). Chambers, of this place, has in his garden a black berry bush that has been bearing berries continuously since last June. It now has some berries o'.i it. The board of pardons, at its meeting last Salurdav, recommended to the governor that a pardon be granted to J. I). Walker. of Lancaster, serving a twelve months' sentence in the penitentiary for selling whiskey; ''because of his old age and leeble condition and his promise to ?*71 v t? Hum Lancaster county." The board refused to recommend the pardon of Walter E. McManus, ot Lancaster, serving a sentence in the penitentiary tor manslaughter. Steele, one of Lancaster's well known Confederate veterans, who has been carrying a bullet, received in battle, since the last day of March 1805, went over to Chester a few days ago to have I)r. Prvor locate the missile by means of the X ray and to remove it if possible, an it gives him constant pain.
