\ .. is of Clemsoo. Statement Issued by Board of Trustees after Special Meeting held to Investigate the Charges. The following is the statement issued hy the 'rustees of Clemson alter their meeting a few days ago to investigate t lie various ciiticisms of the management of the college: The board beg leave to say that alter hearing and considering all the information obtainable Irom known experts in regard to the individual merits and value of the nine cows purchased by n committee appointed by the board of trustees from Mr. A. Shanklin, on a certain recent date, and alter haying thoroughly inspected these nine cows, the board puts itself upon record as approving the the said purchase by this committee, and also approves of any and all advice which may have been given by Col. Simpson to the said committee in regard to the facts and circumstances which should Rurround the expenditure of money obtained from the General Government under the Adams Act tor the purchase of the cattle and other material for the equipment of the experiment station, and also thorough ly approves of his efforts, as a member of this board, protecting the College's interest in the matter of obtaining valid titles to the said stock, for the following reason: That there were certain legal limitations placed upon the ex penditure of this money by Con gress, which conditions the board of trustees had occasion to inves titrate, and which were thoroughly understood by the chairman of the board, and for the further reason that a legal title was ahsolutely necessary to protect the College in its interests. The board further desires to say that in Keeping and maintaining a thorough system of eleanliness and sanitary regulation in the barracks of the Col lege we find, upon investigation, that Dr. Mell, the president of the College, has, at the beginning, or prior to the beginning of each scholastic year, caused to be made a thorough fumigation and disinfec'ion of the said barracks, and at the end of each session the same process lias been made for the extermination or wnarpvor pesis, unpleasant odors or unhealthy conditionthat may be found in tlie fmid barracks.
