prayer he introduced Congressman
Finley, who made a short
speech strictly on national affairs.
Dr. Strait, his opponent, was
then introduced by Mr. W. F.
Stevenson and stated his position
on national issues and discussed
the record of Mr. Finley. Regret

The Kershaw Dispensary.
' The Supreme Court Makes
Permanent Associate Jus;
tice Jones's Temporary Injunction
Against Opening
Dispensary in the Town.
The Columbia State: At a
special session of the supreme
court yesterday morning cho
county board of control of Kershaw
county was enjoined from
establishing a dispensary at. the
town of Kershaw. The decision
is of very great importance to the
people of Lancaster who hnve
fought againpt the establishment
of this dispensary for some time
and they will he gratified to
learn that the legal objections

make permanent a temporary
injunction ordered some time
ago. The reasons for the decision
will be tiled later.
Kershaw is a town on the
county line between Lancaster
and Kershaw counties There was
a dispensary thereon the Lancaster
side of the town until the
county voted out the institution
so decisively. Then the dispensary
was closed and nothing further
was heard of it until a few
months ago, when the iState board
of dispensary directors received
from the county board of control
of Kershaw county a peti
tiou sent in for the opening of a
dispensary at Kershaw on the
Kershaw county side. The State
board decided to grant the petition
and the county board elected
(Irover Welsh dispenser. The
people of Lancaster and especially
in the town of Kershaw at
once decided to tight this move
and a temporary restraining
order was obtained until the
facts could be represented to the
< supreme court.
Those opposed to the dispensary
based their tight on the allegation
that the notices of elec
tion of the dispenser were not
published in a manner required
I by law and also that the dispell
sary would be a nuisance. The
jlaw requires that a notice ot
election of a dispenser shall be
published at least four tunes,
consecutively, and there appears
to have been a mistake made by
I the county board of Kershaw in
carrying out this provision. The
nuisance, the taxpayers claimed,
would be in opening a dispensary

after it had been closed on the
I/wieaster side and the people of
the town had made arrangements
for the improvement of certain
property 111 the dispensary ter
ritory. It is not known yet
whether the decision by the
court is on one or both of these
points as the reasons for the de
ri-ion will not be tiled until some
time later. It is believed that
I this will end the light bv the
.Kershaw county board unless
there is a petition for a rehear
I in* made and granted, and that
til - town of Kersh iw will remain
I dry.
