According to your request of
diet week, I will give to your

1 use the Mason cans and always
try to have good rubbers,

Where runs and sheds are provided,
a house of this size will serve
aa a shelter for twenty fowla.
Soft shelled eggs are caused
generally by a lack of lime 111 the
food. The sheila are a lime formation,
and if there is not a sufficient
amount of that material in
the fowl, the shells will not harden.
The trouble has also been
traced to indigestion in fowls.?
An overfat condition, too, will
show itself in the nature of the
egg when laid. Instances are
known where hens frightened or
annoyed by dogs have dropped
eggs with a soft shell.
July is tlie most desirable
month of the year to put up new
buildings, as there is generally
dry weather enough from then on
to leave the building in good
shape for housing the poultry
early in the fall. A poultry house
cannot be made or kept too dry
for the good of the fowls. Houses
built late in the fall are almost
certain to be damp during the
winter and the fl ick is very apt
to get in bad condition before
spring with colds, cramps and
kindred ailments.
When the chicks arecontinually
peeping, stand around or have
diarrhoea, look for lice. When
your chicks die very rapidly at
the age of five or hix weeks, this
is a sure sign that they are being
killed by lice and nothing else.
l'erfect cleanliness is of the
greatest importance in the whole
subject of raising chickens. It
mokes no difference how good
feed and care you give your
chicks, they will not grow if they
are confined in unclean and illventilated
coops.
As predicted some time ago the
price of eggs and broilers is on
the up grade. Especially is this
so in Charlotte, N. 0., where they
have just had a beef and milk

suicide, following a terrible beat
ing inflicted on her by a party /
ol men who visited her home a

bore a good reputation, so far as
is known, ami (lie reason for the
reported attack is not given.
According to tlie story which
has reached Mr. Carrier, who
lives here, a party o' '35 persons
went to the woman's home and.
calling tier to the door, shot at ,
her. The bullets misssd their
mark and imbedded themselves
in the wood. The men then
thrashed her terribly and also
her youngest boy. After having
been beaten, it is said, the wo
man was driven from the house
and forced, with her children, to
remain all the night in the
woods.
The next morning a responai
ble man reported t hat ho had
?-een her and the children trudg- |
ing along the road leading to
Tyger river. When questioned
regarding her destination it is <
said she replied in such a way J
as to indicate that she intended
to drown herself and children.
Mr. Carrier savs the woman j
bore a good reputation and he
could not account tor the deed.
