The farewell meeting of the

interdenominational moetiugg of
the Christian Crusaders, was
held on Thursday night, July 12.
The seating capacity of the Tabernacle
was crowded, and many
stood on I ho outside. The thought
of this meeting being the last
one in the Tabernacle in which
the great appreciation of the
work which has been done
could be manifested, and also
their last opportunity to ex
press their gratitude to God and
to the Crusaders, for blessings
which have come to the hearts
of many, brought sadness and
solemnity over the greater part
of the audience assembled.
The hallowed spot upon which
the Tabernacle stands, which
was consecrated to God, at the
time the camp was established,
became more sacred as the me
mori d was raised of 100 testi
monies which were given to God's
glory, from all parts of the congregation.
This number compris
ed many of the recent converts,
and older Christians some of
whom had not ventured to testify
for Christ before this time,
during this series of meetings.
Many spoke of the great blessings
they had received through these
services, and others expressed
their determination to follow
Jesus unto the end and meet the
Crusaders in Heaven.
Though they have been obliged
to combat with many elements
of opposition, the worst of which
was an under current of malignant
prejudice agitated by some
who ought to have known better
than to have done anything that
would in thio least degree interfere
with God's soul saving work,
the Crusaders have very much
enjoyed the work here as they

with the people. While Ood has
through their instrumentality,
brought a blessing to many
hearts, the Crusaders, themselves,
have been much blessed,
and have found among the people
ot Lancaster, some who really
know (iod, and many warm
friends.
In their farewell remarks, the
Crusaders exhorted the converts
to "watch and pray," and t?> be
resolved to be true to (iod unto
the end of their lile's journey,
with the assurance, i! they will j
trust and obey <?od, thut they
can ever claim Mis promise,"I,o,
I am with you alwav, even un
to the end of tho world."

"newborn babes," comprising
this gracious ingathering, to the
Shepherds of tho flock*. May
thoy he nourished by the "sincere
milk of the Word," he
watched over faithfully, and
guided in all the paths of rightenousness
and t rue holiness until
at last, they shall he escorted
by conveys ol angels to the l'aradise
of God. When they appear
before the Heavenly Tribunal,
may each one be privileged to
hear the "Well done, thou good
and faithful servant," from the
lips of .Jesus, and then forever
dwell in the presence of the
Lord.
The Christian Crusaders avail
the themselves of this opportunitj'
to gratefully acknowledge
the many courtesies and acts of
kindness of all who have kindly
contributed to their temporal
needs, and have given them
words of cheer and encourage

those of this number who are
Christians may persistently
strive to pet fsriher out into the
deep ocean of God's unfathomable
love in order that those of
their neighbors and friends who
"know Him not" man be persuaded
to surrender their wills to
the Savior, and also become sons
and daughters of the royal family
of God Almighty.
As the Crusaders leave Lancaster
they request the prayers
of God's children that they may,
as embassadors of Christ, be
faithful to tho charge with which
He has eutrusted them, and that
success may attend their efforts
in their next field of labor. If
in ine providence 01 una tney
meet the people of Lancaster no
more upon earth, they desire to
meet them in Heaven whither
they are bound.
Remembering the commission
with which Christ has sent them
out to labor, viz.. "Go ye in all
the world and preach the gospel
to every creature," the Crusaders
have been contained by the
love of God to hold a lew meetings
in the interest oi the unsaved
among the colored people,
in the St .James A. M. E.
Church.
Mr. Mclver Ervin, Brother
of Mrs. Geo. W. Brown,
of Darlington, ProbablyDrowned
at Sea.
Mr. Mclver Ervin, ft young
man of Florence who had been
living in New York several years,
mysteriously disappeared irom
aboard a steamer between New
York and Charleston 11 few days
ago. It is not known whether lie
met with foul play, accidentally
fell overboard or committed
suicide by drowning. The last
theory is not believed however,
as there was no reason lor the
young man to t "ko Ins own life.
iMr. Ervui was a brother of Mrs.
brown, wife of .Senator (Jeo W
Brown, of Darlington, and lie
was on liis way to Darlington to
visit, his sister when ho lost his
lite.
Col. and .Mrs. Brown, who are
well known in Lancaster, this
being the o'd home of the former,
have the full sympathy of their
numerous friends here in their
bereavement.
Col. A. K. Banks paid a visit
to Chester hist Saturday.
Dr. .Dimes K. I'oore, of Colnin
bia, is spending a f.*vv days with
his family liero, who are visiiing
Mrs. I'ooro's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. C. Payseur.
