Butter color will not color up
defects in grain or llavor.
If you want good cows, raise
the heifer calves from vour best.
Bad llavor in butter is often
caused by over ripening of the
cream.
Discard all cows in the dairy
that develop objectionable habits
naturally.
The heifer must needs have a
good mother and a sire from a
dairy strain.
A little grain with the pasture
of the cows will wonderfully in |
crease the butter yield.
A good tnilker must bp a good !
feeder but a good feeder is not
always a good milker.
^ Very largely a heifer is valuable
in proportion to the smallness
of the feed required by her to
make a pound of butter.
It is the percentage of fat in
the milk that determines its
commercial value either for but
ter or cheese making.
