Legislature Notes By Representative Hamel? House Passes Bill Requiring Board of Commissioners to Erect a Prison at the Lancaster Cotton Mills Bill to Charter Railroad from Heath Springs to Granite Quarry Passed Both Houses?Other Matters of Interest. There has heen very little of a general or local interest transacted in tlie business of the legisla ture since my last letter that affects the readers of The News. Both houses convened Monday after having adjournned on the preceding Thursday. The session ol that, day was brief but busy and a great deal of routine work was dispatched in I he short time (he house was in session. One bill of a local nature, thai of Mr. Foster requiring die erection oi a prison at (he Lan easier cotton mi 11 s by the county board of commissioners, passed its third reading and was sent to t ho senate. Mr. Sanders' bill to require police officers to report all places where liquors are illegally sold or gambling carried on has passed a third reading. The powers of ihe dispensary investigating committee have been enlarged and they are now vested with lull power to enforce Ihe attendance of witnesses and compel them to give testimony and thev are given unlimited power for completing tlie inv< stigat ion. A bill to limit t li3 publication of election notices to a single newspaper in each county was committed to the printing committee on its third reading. The bill to charter the Cen tral Railway company, of South Carolina, which is the railroad from Heath Springs to the quarry of the Southern Granite company, near Magill, lias passed both houses and as soon a- it can receive the governor's signature, which will be by tbe time this is read, w ill he a law.
