Senator Butler introduced a
bill to repeal the charter of the
Richland Distilling company. It
provides that the charter he re
voked April, ], 1000.
An unfavorable report was
made on Mr. Sanders' antigambling
bill, which has passed
the house. The bill went
on the calendar.
Debate was resumed on the

discussion having been adjourned
from yesterday.
Senators Blake and Hudson
spoke against the bill on the
ground of the unconstitutionality
and the impracticability of
it. The latter spoke generally
and strongly on the disposition
of legislators to attempt to regulate
the Everyday affairs of
citizens, saying all sucb laws
are not only futile, but. are ridi
colons. He declared that tbis
particular bill undertook to do
snmfttliinir which law cannot, do
? prevent a man from ceasing
"work if lie wants to or an owner
from closing his business if he
considers it to his interest to do
so.
Senator Black favored the bill
because it worked justice both
ways?for the employer and
employed.
Senator Hood argued against
it on the lack of impracticability
and because thoro is no demand
for such a bill. When the mill
operatives want legislation they
will make their wants known.
They have not asked for this
law. They are intelligent and
are abundantly able to know
what they want and to take care
of themselves.

The house passed Mr. Brant ley'h
bill, alter a short debate, to
require a county license lee ol

cruelty of the practice of these
fakirs against the ignorant. Tlie
bill requires the ingredients ot
the medicines sold to be printed
in English on the package, which
must also bear the endorsement
of some licensed practicing physician
of the state. Tlie penalty
is $10 to $100 tor each unlawful
sale.
