LOCAL NEWS JJ I *->-! -r-^. '^ *-- - A^-> <.^> -V^-^ ^ Child Meets with Painful Acci- ? dent. Little Isadore Vaughn, the 10 vear old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Vaughn," of the Heath ' Springs section, met with a singular accident last Friday. A window sash fell on her left foot, completely severing the middle toe without injuring the others. The unfortunate child's suffering j was intenfle. Dr. J. A. liutledge, of Ileath Springs, dressed the wound. Fitie Ftirtnlnu on n Small Scale ?Improving Poor Laml. Mr. W. P. Vaughn, a young farmer of the Heath Springs neighborhood, only planted eight acrea in cotton this year, but he has already gathered 7 bales off his field. Four years ago the same land did not yield exceeding 400 pounds of seed cotton to the acre. Mr. Vaughn haa brought it up to lta present standard of fertility by sowing on it alternate crops of oats and peas, turning the latter crop under as a fertilizer. There are quantities of impoverished lands in this country that could be easily reclaimed by the ' plan so successfully pursued bv Mr. \ aughn. Of course the plan is not a new one, as it has many times been tried, and successfully too, by others ; but its effective ness as a soil restorer and builder cannot be too ofteu pointed out and emphasized. Complete Returns of the Infection The News gave in tabulated form in Wednesday's issue the vote of the dispensary election the day before, which included all the precincts except Montgomery, which box was not heard from until Wednesday afternoon. The returns are now complete, and we therefore republish the statement referred to with the Montgomery vote added. A few slight errors have also been cor- ' rected in the previous figures , which were made in receiving them over the phone : Voting Precinct. Dis. No Dis. Lancaflter C.
