Drug Screening Tests Begin at Clinton Plants Effective Monday, June 8, all Clinton Mills (S.C. plants) applicants selected for employment consideration will be required to pass a drug screening test during the pre employment physical examination. The drug screening test comes after many months of careful study and evaluation of various procedures and labs involved in drug screening work. In a notice to all associates, President Thad Williams noted that “it is the intent of Clinton Mills to provide a safe, healthy and efficient working environment for all associates. We do not feel that our associ ates should be subject to injury due to un safe acts, or hardships due to low productiv ity or absenteeism of those under the influ ence of alcohol or drugs.” In recent months industry has become more and more concerned about the wide spread use of chemical substances and the adverse affects on the work environment. Clinton's medical services staff has been thoroughly trained in proper procedures re quired to administer the drug screening tests. Assistance Program... (Continued from page 1) That’s why the Associate Assistance Prog ram has developed a series of techniques designed to identify drug related problems and means to assist individuals in dealing appropriately with the problems. Confidential counseling is available through the company in cooperation with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. If it becomes necessary for referral to a medical hospital or treatment facility, arrangements will be made for those in need to receive the most appropriate treatment available. It is important that everyone realize that the Clinton Associate Assistance Program is a confidential source of help. There are several ways to contact the AAP counselor. During normal office hours, he can be contacted directly by calling 833- 4121. Contact with the counselor may also be arranged through the personnel depart ment, plant nurse or your supervisor. Alcohol How Much When you drink alcoholic beverages, how much is too much' if you're going to drive? The answer differs for each person — de pending upon such things as body weight, physical and mental condition, the type of beverage, amount consumed, length of time between drinks, and amount of food in the stomach. Special studies do indicate drink ing to a factor in at least half of the fatal motor vehicle accidents. No one can correctly boast that “drinking has no effect on me.” Alcohol is a depress ant drug which is absorbed almost immedi ately into the bloodstream and affects the central nervous system. Even two or three drinks within a short time can affect re flexes, judgment, coordination and clarity of vision and speech. Alcohol s eliminated from the body at a fixed rate which is not speeded up by exercise, fresh air, black cof fee or cold showers. Whether it is holiday observances, family celebrations, a need to relax after a hard day, or any other occasion on which having “a few drinks” is customary, observe these cau tions: • Don’t drink doubles. Is Too Much? • Space your drinks out over a long period. • Have something to eat, or nibble, while you’re drinking. • Don’t drink if you’re taking prescription drugs or other medicines. • For your own safety and the safety of others, take a cab or have someone who hasn't been drinking drive you, rather than driving yourself. Vacation Pay Totals $454,634 at Clinton Prior to the July Fourth vacation shut down, Clinton associates will share in July Fourth vacation pay totalling $454,634, and Clinton Mills of Geneva associates will received $132,442. This is in addition to the $409,178 Clin ton and $87,033 Clinton Mills of Geneva associates received for Christmas vacation pay. The combined payouts totalling $1,083,287 are in addition to the pay asso ciates receive for the seven >paid holidays. The award recognizes superior students who excel in academic disciplines. Those honored must have a 3.3 or better grade point average and have strong re commendations from teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors.
