Page 3 Clothmakers In The News Clinton Mills Announces Changes in Accounting Staff Clinton Mills, Inc., has announced the following changes in its accounting staff, effective June 1, 1987, according to Vice President and Treasurer Walter A. Sigman Jr. Jim Ovenden has as sumed the position of assistant treasurer. Ovenden joined Clinton Mills earlier this year and has been working in various accounting and financial areas of the company. Prior to joining Clin ton Mills, he was associated with Peat Marwick Main and Co., the company’s CPA firm. Ovenden is a CPA and a magna cum laude graduate of Furman University. Norman Craven is now controller with added responsibilities for bill ing, payroll, payables and petty cash. Craven joined Clinton Mills on November 30, 1973, as accounting manager. A graduate of the Un iversity of South Caro lina, Craven had held accounting positions wjth several major Southern based com panies before joining Clinton Mills. In addition to his accounting duties, Craven is treasurer and a member of the board of directors of the Clinton Credit Association. Steve Fennell is now manager of costing and budgets with respon sibility for developing improved costing, bud geting and accounting throughout the com- parfy. Fennell, a 1970 M. Mr. Fennell S. Bailey Scholarship recipient, joined Clinton Mills in; 1974 following graduation from the University of South Carolina. Prior positions held by Fennell include assistant office manager, office manager, manager of payroll and senior accountant. Hallman Joins Clinton Mills Plant No. 2 Ronnie Hallman has joined Clinton Mills Plant No. 2 Weaving as assistant general superintendent. A native of Ninety Six, Hallman held numerous manufactur ing positions with Greenwood Mills prior to joining Plant No. 2. Hallman is a member of the 122nd Engineer Bata 11 ion of the South Carolina National Guard Mr. Hallman where he holds a Sarge- ant’s rank. He is also a member of the Ninety Six Volunteer Fire Department. Hallman, his wife, and two children live in Ninety Six. Barry L. Hooks Elected President of ATMA Barry L. Hooks, general manager of Clin ton Mills of Geneva, was elected president of the Alabama Textile Manufacturers As sociation (ATMA) May 29 during the 86th anniversary meeting of the membership held at Point Clear, Alabama. Hooks suc ceeds William I. Henry, vice president of manufacturing, Southern Phenix Textiles, Phenix City, Alabama. Hooks is a native of Shawmut, Alabama, and and is a graduate of Auburn University. He presently serves as a delegate to the National Cotton Council, as past general chairman of the Alabama Textile Oper^ ating Executives, serves Mr. Hooks as president of the Alabama Textile Education Foundation and is a member of the advisory council, Southern Economic Development Agency. The Alabama Textile Manufacturers As sociation is the trade association for the textile/apparel industry representing textile corporations with operations in Alabama. The textile/apparel/fiber industry employs over 94,000 Alabamians, approximately 1/ 3 of the manufacturing workforce in the state. Phillips Promoted to Asst. Departmental Superintendent, Second Shift, Depts. 40 and 50 Carroll Phillips has been promoted from loom technician to assistant departmental superintendent, second shift, departments 40 and 50. Phillips has been with the company since November 14, 1977, and also had previous work experience at the Bailey Plant. He is a four year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. An avid hunter, Mr. Phillips fisherman and golfer, Phillips is also a softball and baseball of ficial with primary concentration on high school and YMCA games. His wife, Ruth, is a Plant No. 1 weaver. The Phillips have four children. Martha Prather Promoted to Assistant Departmental Superintendent, Plant No. 2 Martha Prather has been promoted from cloth room recorder to assistant de partmental superintendent. Plant No. 2 She joined Clinton Mills in 1954 as a cloth inspector. Martha is a member of the Clinton Credit Association where she serves on the board of directors and attends Broad Street Metho dist Church. She and her husband, Tommy, have two children. Cecilia is a 5th grade teacher at Eastside Elementary School and John is co-owner of C. W. Coop er Garage. Clothmaker Salutes Jimmy Campbell The Clothmaker takes great pride in saluting associates who make substantial contributions to improve the quality of life in the communities in which they live. In this issue, The Clothmaker recognizes Jimmy Campbell, a Bailey Plant ty-in opera tor. Jimmy has worked diligently for over three years in promoting the Joanna Textile Festival. This year’s festival, Mr. Campbell which was held in April, gave Campbell an opportunity for the third consecutive year to work with various groups throughout the county in promoting textiles and a textile community. For Campbell, working with the Joanna Textile Festival has become almost a year round job, as planning must be done months in advance to schedule crafts, en tertainment, printing, etc. Simmons Promoted to 5th Shift Weaving Asst. Departmental Superintendent Gholdie Simmons has been promoted to 5th shift weaving assistant departmental superintendentfor Plant No. 1. Gholdie is an active bowler and for many years was actively in volved in the election process as he held a re sponsible position in the Clinton Mills precinct. A native of Barnwell County, S.C., Gholdie served in the Korean War. Since joining Clin ton Mills in 1948, he has held numerous jobs in the weave room, including service operator, cloth doffer, loom technician and others. Wyatt Promoted to Second Shift Assistant Departmental Superintendent Barry Wyatt has been promoted from loom technician to second shift Lydia weaving assistant de partmental superinten dent. Wyatt, joined Clinton Mills 19 years ago as a weaving service oper ator. He worked as a smash specialist and loom technician before assuming his present Mr. Wyatt position.
