Morgan Mitchell, Training Coordinator for the South Carolina Department of
Labor, recently presented a 90-minute training seminar on hazards recognition
for all members of supervision. In his program, Mitchell instructed supervision
in the skills needed to make the work environment safer. Using a series of slides,
personal experiences, and demonstrations, the veteran industrial training direc
tor cited ways of preventing injuries caused by improper electrical wiring,
defective equipment, improper supervision, and unsafe work practices. He
provided participants with a detailed check list which is a valuable tool in
detecting common workplace hazards.

Do you have questions
about your insurance?
Do you have questions about medical care you
are receiving, recommended procedures, .surgery
or group medical benefits?
Talk with your benefits counselor, Truman
Owens in Clinton, or Lucille White in Geneva. They
have been trained in health and insurance coun
seling and can answer questions like:
1. What can you expect before and after surgery?
2. What medical alternatives do you have?
3. What will the plan cover?
4. What do you have to pay for?
They can tell you about second surgical opin
ions, outpatient surgery, pre-admission testing,
out-patient diagnostic X-ray, lab tests, etc.
It’s a good idea to talk with Truman or Lucille

board deductible.
They can help you save both time and money.
Call Truman Owens at 833-5500

Budget Rent-A-Car Joins Campaign
The campaign to make consumers more
aware of American-made textiles and ap
parel is catching on!
Two Carolina companies have begun dis
playing “Crafted With Pride in USA” logos
and messages on their products and con
sumer packaging.
Harris Teeter/Food World, Inc., based in
Charlotte, NC, launched a campaign to
educate shoppers on the importance of tex
tile jobs to America’s economy. The com
pany’s 127 supermarkets in the Carolinas,
Virginia and Tennessee use grocery bags
imprinted with the "Crafted With Pride”
logo and a “buy American” message.
And Budget Rent-A-Car in Greenville, SC,
has begun displaying “Crafted With Pride”
bumperstickers on the rear bumpers of all
its cars. The bumpersticker reads, “We
support American-made textiles and ap
parel. Do you?”
Valerie Miller, owner of the Greenville
franchise of Budget Rent-A-Car, said the
bumpersticker idea occurred to her shortly
after she moved to the Greenville area.
“I moved here in June,” she said. “One of
the first things that hit me was that the
textile industry is suffering. And a big part
of the reason is imports. If we can buy more
American-made goods, it will help the situa
tion.”
