3 Quality First Updates From Geneva (Continued from page 2) Public Relations Team: A Public Relations Team has been formed for Clinton Mills, Inc., Geneva. The goal for this team is to better inform all Associates, as well as the community, about what is “happening”. The team will be looking for personal interests, special recogni tions, and unique items for Plant Media Areas, local newspapers, and The Clothmaker. Cloth Handling Team: This team has com pleted a loom roll build project which included development of new durable tube and sup plier. Old tubes were brittle and destructible. New tubes are nearly indestructible. Supply expense for replacement tubes is now nil. Straightness of roll salvages has been im proved from a 50% and 35 % unacceptable in Plants #2 and #1 respec tively to 2% overall. This improvement has contributed to a significant productivity increase in the Cloth Room for a measured cost improvement of $151,000 a year. Cut Cots Team: This team is monitoring cut cots/cost. The plan of improvement focus has been on training. Plant #1 spinning personnel have been trained in the What’s, Why’s, and How’s regarding cut cots. A chart the team uses reflects the improvement in the cut cots situa tion. The original pace was $19,000 a year. The current improved pace is $3,000 a y ear _ a $16,000 a year improvement. Warper Creel Team: This team is an extension of Warper Operator Practices. The team has designed experiments and evaluated warper creel conditions/settings for performance impact. They found that warper stops are not functions of minor variations in creel peg posi tions. A control chart was developed and shows warper stops to be stable. Control charts detect special cause problems and direct corrective action. Ronald and Janice Dady’s Daughter Wins Title Eight year old Maranda Dady recently won the title of Little Miss Bethlehem. Alabama and Clinton Mills Team Up For Training Maintenance of Clinton Mills’ equipment is a continuing process requiring cons tant updates and retraining. To help with that problem, the Alabama Department of Industrial Training has provided a training shop for Clinton Mills to train equipment operators and maintenance personnel. Basics for the class are to be able to troubleshoot equipment, install new equipment and maintain wiring and motors. The shop, a 14 feet by 70 feet portable classroom is equipped the way the company wants it and can be re-equipped as needed for different instruction. The program was started in 1975 for retraining of the workforce or for training peo ple where new industry is being established. Ronald Edwards, a 15 year Clinton Associate, is currently involved in teaching a class two nights per week on direct current and alternating current theory. When needed, the state will re-equip the shop for solid state electronics. Edwards was previously Clinton’s head electrician. He is now Plant Engineer. He has 20 years experience in electricity and air conditioning and has an associate degree in electronics. The shop has been at Clinton for about three months. The minimum stay is six months, but it could stay longer if the state does not get a relocation request. Industrial Training Department provides equipped portable classrooms.
